U really need febe? just copy the whole Profile folder to a safe place. A noscript replacement i use is notscripts, does te same: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/odjhifogjcknibkahlpidmdajjpkkcfn Status Bar: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/search?itemlang=&q=status bar Scrapbook: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/search?itemlang=&q=scrapbook
febe is "better" because it offers u more options. i use it myself on firefox. but also with firefox u can simply backup both firefox folders from Local/Roaming. Same in Opera, Chrome. After (for example) a format u get the exact same settings, tabs etc like before. I have done it many times.
Any of you know how to make Chrome look like Mac's version? You know, with these 3 lights at the upper left corner. I searched in Google but what i found was rather old, was refering to version 2 or 3 and you had to replace the default.dll thing that now does not exist anymore. My favourite extension is Speed Dial, which lets you customize the new tab page. I've set mine as my start page and looks like this
I am liking Chrome so much more these days now that the extensions i use, or similar to what i use with Firefox are available for Chrome. X-notifier (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL ...) made by the person who makes Webmail Notifier for Firefox, essential extension for those of us that have multiple email accounts. Zoomy allows me to set Zoom options, not as many options as NoSquint but it suits me fine. Mouse Stroke the best extension i have used that is most like FireGestures. WOT And LastPass The ever buggy Roboform is no more
I've started using AdThwart following the involvement of Palant (of AdBlock Plus for Firefox fame) in the project. Unlike Privoxy, my default content "adjuster", AdThwart is effective on https sites as well. My main target was my internet banking site which had one too many needless pictures. AdThwart blocked the download, not just display, for this site.
Hmmm .... It kind of reminds me of Arthur C. Clark being credited with the invention of communication satellites, he may have thought of the idea first, but he didn't fire any up into orbit from his backyard did he? "Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." ~ The White Queen, Through the Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll
I actually prefer AdThwart but sometimes I have found it didn't block all adverts, hopefully soon it will though. I am not too sure about the proposed logo change, I quite like it as it is!
I've ditched Michael Gundlach's Adblock for Chrome in favour of AdThwart and I must say I really like it! The 'easy create filter' feature (which I initially overlooked) even catches those sneaky flash ads that are otherwise hard to kill, all it takes is a bit of experimenting. Bravo!
You can also refine your filters manually in the "Add your own filters" tab by editing raw text. That way you can combine several very similar filters into one by using wildcards. At least on my system, AdThwart plays nicely with Privoxy. I have Privoxy doing most of the work and keep AdThwart for the ones that try to get away. My user stylesheet takes care of Mr. Marquee. I still have to figure out how to stop sliders. They make me nauseous.
Using the 'easy create filter' feature. First activate it, then right (not left) click on the slider Repeat if necessary as it may consist of several items.
For those who run their Chrome in Sandboxie (!), the Adthwart changes made to your own customised filters (*) are in "Local Storage" in this file: chrome-extension_cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb_0.localstorage at least on Win XP and Chrome 10 Dev. Copying this over to the corresponding folder on your hard drive will retain the changes made in the Sandboxed session. * Note that I don't use the ready-made filters and I don't know where their updates are kept.
I was reluctant to use googe chrome for a long time because of the lack of ad blocking software. Howevr I was pleasantly surprised that google has finally allowed adblock plus to be available for chrome. Which means maybe I'll get chrome a chance. On a sidenote has anyone tested out firefox 4 beta? it looks remarkably like google chrome, in every way. I'm not sure I'm excited about that, because one of the reason why I stoped from migrating because I ddin't want to relearn how to browse the web with chrome's differenet interface. However if firefox becomes a chrome clone then it would make it very easy for me to change between firefox and chrome.
It's still Firefox though, the architecture is a bit different. You can even put the tabs on the bottom of the GUI like the old Firefox. In fact if you do that it actually makes the GUI a little smaller anyway.
