    PDF-XC update

There have been some bug fixes apparently & the UI has some changes. It looks a little more subtle to me, although I thought the previous was cooler.

    Oh ho!

I updated to the PDF XC 2.5.188 with the updater on both my desktop (Win 7 64 bit) & smaller laptop (Vista 32 bit) & the Ask toolbar was not included in the desktop upgrade but was on the laptop. Uninstalling from the toolbar itself was problematical but I uninstalled from the control panel.

Another thing that I noticed was that there were two PDF XC files in the control panel, the last stable release (I have been using PDF XC about a month) & the new one. I uninstalled the old one from my desktop & the whole PDF viewer was removed! o_O

I re-installed from the homepage & everything is fine ... no Tracker/Ask toolbar.

Regardless of a sneaky attempt to put their toolbar on IE (which I hardly ever use anyway) I still prefer PDF XC to Adobe!

The Lite version also was updated- and still free promo. There was supposed to be a fix for the auto install of the ask toolbar when a person opts in for the pdf-xchange viewer install. I don't see release notes though.

Yeah, but it's odd why it installed a toolbar on both of my 32 bit (Vista) laptops but not on my 64 bit desktop (Seven).

"Looks like problem is because I had enabled silent mode for installation from Live Update. Will remove it now"

~ Tracker Site Admin about toolbar stealth installation.

This is a beta version. They have changed their policies on betas. Users (including me!) will need to pay closer attention to the version being released.

    Yes, indeed it is.

How? I use the following page to check for new versions (I bought the PRO product and, therefore, download PRO - but it shouldn't matter since new versions of all products are generally released at about the same time):

    http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads

Now, below are links to the "Version History and Release Notes" pages for the PRO and Viewer products. Note that they both clearly read "current stable version". o_O

Yeah, sorry I thought that this was a common policy with Tracker. I am in two minds whether to install the old one again.

    "Version 2.5.188
    (current stable version)"

Yeah, what's with this? LOL o_O

It seems stable though. Either way, it's way better than Adobe.

Adobe rendering quality is still slightly better, unfortunately. Still, portable PDF-XChange Viewer is my reader of choice. Check out the new UI customisation options, they're great :)

Yeah, I suppose it is, I aren't that worried about it that I'll re-install Abloaty Adobe though!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that ... cheers. :thumb:

Installed the new build last night, as soon as I noticed it had been posted, and I'm still seeing pretty darn high memory usage after scrolling through PDF files.

There have been reports that the new build resolved this issue for a couple of people but I'm not one of them.

    Any feedback appreciated.

Weird, it's now "PDF-Viewer" in add/remove & start menu. Did they miss out "XChange"?

What is the difference between portable and . . . not portable, besides the size?
