Technically not KingSoft anymore, since they have now merged with another unknown ( at least to me ) company and formed a new company; ijinshan ( Don't know if that is an official English name, but that is what their Website's name )

The new suite now includes KingSoft 2011 with another new cloud engine.

    http://www.ijinshan.com/index.shtml

P.S - this unknown new engine is actually from Kaspersky. And it suppose to use cloud technology as well. Did Kaspersky had Cloud Tech as well?
I haven't been following closely their product and never heard of one.

So do Keniu uses a Cloud version of Kaspersky?

P.S - I have been searching but i see no mention of Kaspersky Cloud AV by themself, so where did this Cloud thing come from? Or do i miss understand their translation?

Kaspersky has had cloud technology integrated in its software for a few years now - Kaspersky Security Network.

Anybody notice the difference between Keniu and Kingsoft on the VB RAP test? If they are the same company, they are definitely using different AV engines.

Arh, interesting as i have never thought of this before.

So all these freebies AV that claims to use KAV engine, Bit Defender or whatever engine, are only using the Engine without signatures?

If that is case, doesn't that render them half useless?

I know for a fact that Hauri Virobot uses only the BitDefender engine without its signatures. This may or may not be true for Keniu/Kingsoft/Ijinshan with their respective engines.

This is generally done when the developer requires just an unpack engine to allow the product to scan all the files. Thus, the license costs less than a full license with the signatures. If the product is aimed towards a particular region only, then it may make sense as the developers probably could make their own database and scan engine for the local threats.
