I tried this one before, found that its imaging speed is slow, and the compression level is not high enough

If you like free backup, imaging , some HDD vendors(like Seagate and WD) have provided a free OEM Acronis True Image for the customers.

Or Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Advanced Edition is also good enough for some one, the speed is not slow and the compression level is acceptable

 

I bought the paid version a few years ago because of the limitations of the free one (if I remember rightly you cannot do incremental backups). It is excellent, stable as a rock, never failed me in restoring images and low resource usage. If the free one suits your needs - go for it

 

Not bad total 20 gig on drive..

 

After years of messing around, testing & trialling paid and free offerings - I also ended up buying Macrium recently

If you decide to go with the paid version you can add a boot menu option. I rarely use the start up disc anymore. I trialed a bunch of programs but this is the only one I have found fool-proof.Emphasis on fool.

 

It's really a good product. I recently tested some image-software for Win7 64bit. After restoring an image back to my SSD it was bootable. With Paragon DI it failed with XP and Win7 always with "missing operating system", so the MBR was not rewritten correctly.

 

Does the free version verify the integrity of the backup?

 

I use both Paragon 10 (paid) and Macrium Free so that I have essentially a backup for my backup image.
Between the two, I prefer Paragon because the rescue CD allows for backup as well as restore. With Macrium, the application must be installed in order to create a backup image, but it is totally free.

Both have performed admirably for me and over the past twenty months the backup and restore processes have (so far) worked every time except for once with Macrium during restore.

On my computer, the Macrium CD initalizes and is ready to use much faster than that for Paragon.
For the actual backup and/or restore functions, Paragon is slightly faster.

 

When I tried the free version about two years ago, it would not verify the integrity of the backup. The comparison of the free and pay versions says that there is no "Auto Verify Images". I assume that means no image verification. Comparison of free and pay versions:

Hmm...I think Paragon Backup and Restore 10.2 / Paragon Backup and Restore 2010 Advanced (both freewares) can do backups as well as restore using the rescue CD. Not an expert on this but for Paragon you can ask Mech_An here at wilders'.

Used Macrium free when I was with XP SP2 before. Never had any problems. But liked Acronis True Image Western Digital edition/Seagate Diswizard better on XP SP3. Using PBR10.2 free / Acronis True Image Western Digital edition (in another pc) on Win7.

The only fault I can find with Macrium Free is that there Restore CD based on Linux is not very robust. I could not get it to boot on a number of machines while other Restore CD's from Paragon or Easeus Todo backup had no problem. If you plan on doing a restore on a system partition, it is best to use the BartPE plugin provided by the program. Does a restore faster than the Linux version. Always best to burn the Restore CD iso and see if it boots and recognizes all of your drives before something critical should happen to the system.

I don't know if you are using Ms ,But this is 100% ok on win7 ultimate version.
on 4 of my systems that i use the same cd on if needed.

being free i think its a top program,and perhaps good to try out.?

I think the only reliable “free” imaging program is the one built-in in Windows 7. All the others are limited trial versions that are supposed to be “upgraded” to the paid versions once the users test their basic capabilities. Using them regularly will cause serious problems sooner or later.

 

i've been using Windows 7 Imaging and restore utility a lot since W7 came out.

i have created and restored at least 50 times.
it has never failed.

i had bought a program from Paragon a couple years ago.
i tried it to see how it compared with the Windows 7 utility.
Paragon had a 50% rate of restoring successfully an image.
2 times out of the 4 i tried, my Windows install was corrupted.
hopefully for them things have improved since then.

if you have Windows 7 and do not need frills like high compression and incremental backups then the W7 imaging utility is all you need.

well this is a piece of useless add in, it cost me a drive that it failed to restore when it crashed.(UNKNOWN WHY).and the drive non bookable,this made me look at other options,but granted it was the Beta win 7- 3 version , since then using this one~ free~ this has never happened again,as for MS being reliable well .??
Sorry i do not agree.but we are talking About this program not others..
I love it..and not a hick up once.IT is very good indeed.
don't need the paid version. I often wondered Why thy improved it For free
as it must be costing them?

If the programs were set to “maximum compression”, why the effective compressions are so low? For example, in the Acronis case, the 4.77 GB partition was compressed to a 4.29 GB image, or 10% compression.

In my experience with Paragon (maximum compression) and Shadow Protect (normal compression), a 22 GB Windows 7 x 64 partition (used size including page file, the partition size is 100 GB) is compressed to 7-9 GB images. The compression rate is 64%.

 

Yes. Right on. Nice tip there. I remember a friend telling me that once. I do use the BartPE plugin much faster.
