Now that WinClone has been abandoned, I need a good, reliable alternative to back up the Win side of Boot Camp (Vista, in my case). The choices appear to boil down to Casper 6 or Paragon Drive Backup Pro 10. The Casper folks do not support Boot Camp, but they say some of their customers have Casper working with Boot Camp. Paragon says it supports Boot Camp in Drive Backup Pro 10, but certain posts in the Apple Discussion Forums suggest that DB 10 does not work well.

I have no desire to use Win software to backup OS X. I simply want a Win program that I can use, while running Vista, to backup my entire Vista partition under Boot Camp and then be able to restore all or only select files. I would appreciate any feedback from Paragon Drive Backup Pro 10 users who use the program the way I want to use it -- on the Win side of Boot Camp, to back up and restore the Win partition only (or select files on that partition). Does it work well?

Current version of Paragon Drive Backup allows to backup Windows\Apple BootCamp configuration, but only from Paragon Recovery CD (Linux-based or WinPE-based). Backup in Windows returns VSS error.
This issue should be solved in next version of Paragon Drive Backup.

Am I imagining things, or was Paragon Drive Backup "Pro" 10 just renamed as Paragon Drive Backup 10 "Workstation"? Literally in the last day or two?

I used the Win Recovery "CD" (burned onto a DVD) and made a complete backup of my Boot Camp partition onto an external USB hard drive. The entire process went swimmingly well. No problems to report.

Given the VSS error message described in another post, should I hold off on installing the regular Backup & Recovery Suite 10 software onto my hard drive until the next version comes out?

    Jimbo724,
There is no need to install it, because backup is possible only from Recovery CD. Partitioning options are also available from CD and it is recommended to use them from CD.

Hope it is OK to revive this thread.

I have used DB10 a few times now to make an image of my Windows 7 X64 partition and restore it to another partition, on both Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, both Snow Leopard. All done booted from a recovery disk as noted above.

Although the eventual outcome has always been successful, I have always had to do a repair install of the restored Windows 7, using a Windows 7 install disk. What is really odd (to me) is that, every time, the FIRST boot up of the newly restored partition is successful. It then (usually) installs drivers, and then on the reboot after that, fails to boot, and that is when I have to boot from the install disk to repair it. Then it is OK.

While booted into DB10 from the Paragon rescue disk I note that there are a lot of options and tools available, which look like they ought to be able to avoid this repair. But I don't know which or how.

    Any help welcomed!

To advice any option from Recovery CD, I need to know what exact error appears after restore & drivers installation.
I suppose, it is kind of BSOD error. Depending on the error encountered, Recovery CD may contain feature to avoid it.

The message is simply a white writing on black screen that windows did not start properly and to put the install disk in to repair.

The repair that is carried out by the install disk is to the boot sector.

I don't really want to try and recreate the situation at the moment, so if this doesn't help at all. I will wait until the next occasion and make sure I record everything possible.

    Thanks
