Update soon for disk imager "Keriver 1-Click Restore"

Per message from Wilders user "2010freesoho " a new version (2.0) of 1 Click Restore Pro (1CRP) will be issued this coming weekend or next week.

2010freesoho messaged that the following changes are included in version 2.0:

1. Ability to recover files from snapshots
2. Ability to create a new baseline snapshot
3. Snapshot management, including create, lock, unlock, delete
4. Ability to schedule task of creating snapshot
5. Event Log
6. Ability to change the storage drive for the snapshots (a helper tool to move the snapshot files from one drive to another drive)
7. Ability for the user to assign a file name when creating a new snapshot.

NOTE 1: English isn't 2010freesoho's native language so I have paraphrased the above listed changes. I'm 99% sure that I got it right but PLEASE do not flame me if it turns out that I slightly misinterpreted what 2010freesoho wrote.

NOTE 2: I have been testing a lot of large software programs in the past few weeks. I have routinely used 1CRP to make an image just before each install. Since I retain very few of the programs I test, I always "uninstall" by restoring a 1CRP image. Thus, I have subjected 1CRP to fairly heavy use. It has never failed me & is reasonably speedy.

NOTE 3: I am now a shameless fanboi for 2 imaging programs: Image for DOS (I use it ~monthly, imaging to HD G), and 1CRP (I use it 3-5 times per week, imaging to HD X).

I also use WinXP SP3 but I have never encountered the problem that you had. I'm just a happy user of 1CRP -- not an expert by any means.

I strongly encourage you to send your information to Tech Support at 1CRP, so that they can fix whatever caused you to have this problem. Tech support is at:

I THINK that you cannot save 1CRP images to your C drive (system drive). If you want to use that drive for saving images, you need to partition it.

One of the main goals of imaging is to enable recovery from system drive failure. You cannot do that recovery if the image files are on the system drive because, when the system drive crashes, the image files will be lost as well.

You can save to the Hard Drive (HD) whereon is located the system drive (usually designated "C") ONLY IF you created an additional partition on that HD, & save image files to that newly added partition. Doing that will enable you to use an image to recover from system disk failures that do NOT affect the partition whereon are located the image files. However, a full-on metal failure of that HD will kill the system disk partition AND the partition housing the image files.

IMO, the safest method is to store image files on a drive OTHER THAN the HD whereon resides the system drive.

 

Created a ramdrive within the XP VM and had no errors from Keriver which backed up to the ramdrive.

Seems like a nice app and may give it a backup/restore try on the real system.

1. Right click on the drive letter which you have chosen.
2. Select the 'property' item and then a popup box will appear.

i think it's also one drive problem, i got only c drive in my vm pc.
i'll test it with at least 2drives next time.
i actually got no chance to chose a drive, this error complained in the 1st run of the app...

 

Almost all laptops have one drive!

 

It is not a one drive problem; it's a 1 partition problem.

How are you going to test the restore capabilities of an imaging app, if you do not use a second partition to store the image?

I am not sure. Wouldn't be better if the image in somewhere on the network, since it does a full image the first run and then does the incremental.

 

1Click-Restore does not work with network folder/drives.
At the partition used for the backup, places some (grub4dos) files needed for booting in the recovery enviroment and some others needed to identify the recovery partition.

The main idea of this program was to keep it as simple and easy to use as possible....
For more advanced tasks try Keriver Image.

Thank you for the information. I haven't tried 1Click-Restore yet, as my operating system is Windows 7 x64. I bought this program when it was on sale, so that I can use it when the x64 is released.

In the meantime, trying to learn about it.

@Dragonman -- In other words, if you want to make an image but you have only one HD, then you need to create a new partition on that HD. Your computer will treat that new partition as though it was an additional HD. You can then save images to that *new HD* (partition).

I didn't write that very well. Will somebody else clarify what I tried to say, please?

Your command of English language is excellent and as well as your explanation. Since Keriver 1-Click Restore does a complete backup on the first run and then incremental backups, therefore my concern was the physical size of one drive, no matter how many partitions one has on it.

I haven't used it so far, but it appears to be a backup program, which might take up a lot of physical space. Though, there is a fine line between imaging and backup software.

Anyhow, awaiting with anticipation for the x64 version.
