one thing i would like them to change is the tiny triangular yellow exclamation 'sign' when you need to pause residential protection. it needs to be either bigger, or a different color. it would serve better as a reminder to re-enable protection.
in my opinion, they've done quite a good job on the antivirus for about a year that i have experienced.

This is worrying... on one hand... great on the other hand. :)

Worrying: Not possible to uninstall AVG LinkScanner so that I can install AVG AV Free to a family member. Not even installing on top will work!

I reproduced this in two systems.

Great: I guess malware is also uneffective uninstalling AVG? :D lol

No, I haven't. But, that's beside the point, because AVG AV Free installer won't also run, to start with. It should start, and just install above LinkScanner o_O

AVG really needs to get their act together. I'll need to see if anyone else has complained at their forums; and be one more voice or a new voice.

When will software developers, at least, verify if their apps install and uninstall fine o_O These sort of installers/uninstallers any mediocre programmers can do.

Be careful! AVG products completely screw up with msi packages (Microsoft installer).

I was trying to run a FixIt msi package, and it will stop running after a few seconds, after agreeing with the EULA.

I'm trying to figure out how to solve the msi problem, because I need to run the FixIt tool. Damn AVG! Worse by the day!

    -Edit-

I don't know what I did, among disabling LinkScanner's service, fixing some stuff for Windows installer, etc., as I tried a lot, but I managed to run the FixIt tool, which didn't fix a damn thing (lol).

Anyway, just pay attention. If you try run some installer that makes use of Microsoft's own installer, then most likely it is AVG.

Windows Event Viewer shows an error for when I tried to uninstall AVG LinkScanner as well. (I didn't see an error for the fixit tool, though.)

You shouldn't tweak and fix your computer every day :D

Simply as a point of interest, I noticed the Idat file which rules the "Definitions for the Identity Protection" (AVG's real-time behavioral component), recently updated from 258 to 260, was termed "whitelist" by the UI's confirmation dialogue.

Isn't AVG Free's Identity Protection basically the behavioural blocker technology they bought from SANA? If so, with the behavioural blocker and LinkScanner wouldn't it offer better protection as a standalone package than almost all the other free AV's at the moment?

I'm really liking the Identity Protection, it actually works pretty well against real malware.

I scan my computer daily but the indicator always says: Last scan: Not scanned yet!

Do you have this bug as well? :doubt:

I just checked in this system, which belongs to relative running AVG AV 2011 Free and it shows the last scan.

Then again, impossible to uninstall! Cool. :D Only with AVG Removal tool. heh

Each user will always experience something different, isn't it quite something? ;)

Because AVG 7 has no anti-rootkit, no anti-spyware, no identity-protection and no linkscanner. It would be useless these days :doubt:

I'm truly enjoying the speed it takes to complete a full scan in 60GB hard disk with 40 GB free; nearly 12 min. Really great. Version 9 would take quite a while.

Over time, with bugs fixed, version 2011 really is great, I think, if we consider both LinkScanner and IDP as being part of it.

Can you specify how much time will take them to fix bugs ? From my knowledge AVG moves slow when fixing bugs like BD team :)

Well, I'll see about that soon. I've reported and given logs due to the fact it won't uninstall or install (because it won't uninstall). Let's see how long will take them.

But, I can say the support team has being doing what they can to assist me; they even lost their time also installing LinkScanner in a virtual machine regarding one other issue as well (right-click scanning and unneeded processes for the program), so I'd say they're interested fixing them.

Are you guys reporting your bugs in the free forum? If you aren't, you should do it, otherwise bugs won't ever be fixed if they don't know about them.

No one implied that the anti-rootkit, anti-spyware, identity-protection, and linkscanner features should be omitted.
Actually, I was referring to the AVG 7 lean GUI (e.g. slim lines)
and the lack of Bugs (compared with the after-AVG 7 versions).
