Hi, I'm currently using free Avira and thinking to upgrade to an anti-malware suite. I also settled for Norton 360 and then I saw toptenreviews rated Webroot far ahead of Norton 360.

Anyone here uses Webroot? It is cheaper than Norton 360 and it is better according to the review?

    I actually found a 50% discount ~removed~

I will try the trial but if you have good comment for Webroot, I think I will go ahead to buy :)

Toptenreviews has a horrible comparison of Antiviruses. They make money off everyone that clicks their buy links and actually buys from them so a lot of their ranking is based off payoff. You're better off looking at Av-Comparatives, AV-Test and the Virus Btn comparatives.

Really? They seems to write so well and that is sad to know. I also find many of these reports are contradiction. So, how is Webroot fair? They use sophos engine?

Webroot was ranked as being very effective, and attained Certified status by AV-test.org on THIS recent test. Also, Webroot should continue to improve by virtue of their recent acquisition of Prevx antivirus and SafeOnline. Definitely an up & coming outfit.

You would be better off with any of the free AV's than with Webroot. We trialed it due to one of our buyers being "persuaded" to stock it. Bloated and slow with below par detection.

The addition PrivX may improve it in the future, but as of now, leave well alone.

When was this "trial" conducted? (AFAIK, Webroots switch to using Sophos as the av component is rather recent.)

I assume you did NOT base your "below par" conclusion on THIS professionally conducted test, where Webroot scored rather well, thereby obtaining certification. If I am correct, then which test DID form the basis for your "below par" conclusion? Also, what was the size & composition of the malware data base used for that test? What professional organization did the testing?

Please be specific. Did you try the latest Webroot Internet Security Essentials 2011? What were the hardware specs and OS on your test system(s)? Without at least this much information there is no context for your conclusion.

Webroot AntiVirus with Spy Sweeper 2011 was good enough to earn PC Magazine's Editor's Choice ;)

....and I'm not trying to hype it - as I use NIS 2011.

@OP: It looks that way. The 2011 products have tested rather well from everything I've seen.
I did trial the IS and it wasn't heavy. I don't think this argument is valid concerning the 2011 line, but I'm sure that 5 years from now a lot of people will still think Norton slows down PCs.

Webroot has excellent detection, and removal of malware such as Sypware, Rogues, and Loggers. Those seem to be their strongest area when compared to the competition. That detection comes from SpySweeper. They use Sophos AV engine, and if you want to know how well Sophos performs then just go to AV Comparatives, and look at the results over the past year. http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests By looking at Sophos results i cannot say they would be my choice of AV. If you already have an AV you like you may want to continue using that AV or find one that best suites you. I would recommend you use SpySweeper or Prevx for detection of Spyware, Rogues, and Loggers. Download a trial of SpySweeper from their website, and see if you like it. There's been a lot of talk over the past few years that Webroot's software has become bloated. I can not say that it has or has not because i have not used it in 4 or 5 years. So use the trial, and judge for yourself. If you find SpySweeper is not for you then i would recommend you use Prevx. Prevx was recently acquired by Webroot which i'm sure you already knew that if you have been on the forum lately at all.

Demonflust, i did not notice before that you are a new member her at Wilders, and would like to welcome you here to our community. I do not trust any ratings from the website you visited. If they have any real data backing their claims of any software they have evaluated then i would love to see it.

Here are just a few sites you can visit for independent testing of security software. Some members here at the forum like them, and others do not. You will have to judge for yourself the value of the test results from these sites. I do believe almost all users here at Wilders would tell you they would give more merit to the information provided from the test results from the sites below.
