Firefox 3.6.12 Going Slow For You?

I don't know what it is, but on two different boxes Firefox's butt really goes slow.

Just today as an example I tried to get a Firefox extension and it was taking quite a time for the Mozilla addons site to load, then I opened it up in Chromium and POW opens in like 1-2 seconds.

Now I've found out this is quite regular for me with Firefox, really slow to load a site, then Chromium loads it right away.

Then if that's not bad enough I constantly get the server could not connect window appearing and I have to keep clicking reload to finally get the site to load.

What the heck is it with Firefox... errrr

Anyone else getting these problems of really bad speeds and connection?

I really like Firefox a lot. I have however had a number of problems through time with FireFox (most of them minor) , so now I'm a little "conservative" , meaning that I do not download new versions as soon as they appear.

B.t.w. have you tried disabling your plugins to see if that helped ?

If unhappy you may still download Mozilla Firefox 3_5 .

 

No, but I have been running the beta (4.0b6) on my smaller laptop & it seems quite rapid. It compares well to Chrome. I have noticed that Chrome seems to take its time in Yahoo! Mail. Iron works fine in it, so does Fx 4.0b6 & Fx 3.6.12 (on my desktop).

I have no explanation for this behaviour with Chrome in Yahoo! Mail. I think the Firefox beta is quite stable & very good. I can see it as a potential default browser again. It's been a long time since I have had Firefox as my default browser on any PC.

Have you tried the Firefox beta?

The other thing too I forgot to mention is that I'm using on both boxes VirtualBox 3.2.10 and also on Win7 when I restart my WiFi connection is slower to now connect, so I don't know if that's just a coincidence, or I'm wondering too if the VirtualBox network driver in Windows now is messing with Firefox...

Well I do have some clean images without VirtualBox I can try.

 

I have FF 3.6.12 and 99% of the time it's just fine, but the Mozilla extension pages are so slow it's ridiculous.

 

In my WiFi properties I unchecked the VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver and I'm not seeing any problems now...

I swear the VirtualBox network drivers are causing problems here and I submitted a bug report because on another box I had the problems so I put back a clean image without it and Firefox is running fine.

 

I'm not sure if this is psychological but considering alternatives (Chromium based browsers), ya, FF 3.6.12 does look slow.

I also have that issue on Mozilla pages so it's not FF fault, generally speaking try uninstalling addons you don't need to see if it helps, if not, search for an alternative ... since FF 4.x ETA has been delayed again.

 

Nope not between the ears, I'm on my Linux box at the moment while typing this and it's been great.

But in Windows with VirtualBox those drivers it uses for it's net have mucked up the stack and it caused Firefox to constantly crap while trying to load a site and I'd have to reload a lot of sites to get them to load.

So sitting here on Linux, all with the same connections/router etc... I see now it's more an issue to do with VirtualBox.

Also on my other box I put in a clean image with Image For Windows that doesn't have VirtualBox and I installed Firefox and it was a big difference in performance and speed.

 

I have found the 3.6.12 build to be less stable than the previous. It has crashed on me several times when before I had no issues. I'm not liking this build overall.

It is very stable for me (no crash since version 3). The only problem is that after long usage, it starts random freezes for 3-4 sec.

 

Firefox 4.0.beta 7 candidate build 1 is faster than 4.0.beta 6 which is faster than 3.6.12, as far as I can tell. But 3.6.12 feels sluggish to me. A lot depends on the add-ons used. Some slow things down quite a bit. Remove add-ons in 3.6.12 and its faster but add-ons are one of the benefits of FF. You can try two profiles - one clean and one not, and see the difference.

 

I notice that it's slow at loading, but once it gets going, it's fine.

 

It's very fast within a ramdisk.

 

To the contrary, Chrome or any of it's forks tends to crash down more often on me than Firefox is. (FF is sweet-stable here) And Firefox seems to load pages (without much JS) faster than Chrome does for me. Both in naked mode and with add-ons...

I guess it's just plain luck for different people...ouch

Firefox is zippy for me on WinXP.

 

I experienced the same situation in the respective version (v3.6.12).

Try cleaning out your cookies and history, then defrag your computer.

 

I found Firefox 4 Beta 6 fast in Windows 7 x86. The look reminds me of Opera 10.5. Promising.

 

Then try 4 Beta 7, out shortly, even better...
