    WRONG!

It's missing DNS Spoofing Protection, and a Rootkit Scanner, 2 very important features you neglected to mention.

Do you know why those 2 features are essential in a FW to be effective?

Clearly you have no idea what they are.

    - Transparent blocking (and I'll correct my previous post here) is included as part of the webshield in the free version
    - DNS spoofing protection is part of banking mode - a feature unique to Online armor
    - Rootkit scanner - that's not even part of a firewall. It's part of the antivirus component of OA++

Sorry man, those don't tell me nothing. I'm not paranoiac. I have a router with firewall. I have Clearcloud DNS. I have Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock. I have OA Free (for now). All those are overwhelming for me.
    As I said above
    I'm on those 99%. You? :D

So you going to tell us why a feature that is unique to OA and isn't part of a firewall anyway, and a feature that is part of an antivirus are "essential in a FW to be effective"?

Rootkitt scanners do not normally come with a firewall. They either come with an AV or a Security Suite. I do not use the free version of OA so i can not speak on the limitations of it. I can safely say without a doubt that I have never used a better firewall than OA, and I have tried almost all of them. TheMozart, if you only use free security software then maybe you should just use Comodo. I used their latest version for a little over a month, and found it to be much better than their previous versions. I just found it odd that if I set a program as trusted in D+ it would continue to prompt me to allow or deny activity by that program which became annoying at times. I also felt that you had to take unnecessary steps to configure rules when encountering a new program. Other than that everything else seemed to be working great.

Well if you think the free, hold on a second did I say free, yes free, if you want the advanced features get youre hands out of youre deep pockets and buy it, I despise people who get something for free and winge about the fact that they dont get what a paid version offers, I thought a leech was an insect and not human but I could be wrong. :gack: :thumbd:

One other thing The Mozart. The free version of Zone Alarm can hardly do anything the paid version of OA can Do Lol

@ TheMozart: This thread is about Online Armor.
Your off topic excursion into ZoneAlarm and Comodo firewalls is just that... off topic.
But I think you should know, before you feel the urge to share anymore of your special ZoneAlarm wisdom with me, that I used that firewall since the year 2000...
9+ years of it, in either the free version or the pro.
For a variety of reasons (corruption & instability being high on the list), I finally got fed up with it and moved to Online Armor.
I couldn't possibly be happier with that decision.
Your posts, by the way, sound more like a troll than a contributing member.
Why come to a thread about the release of a new version of OA, and advise people to use two other firewalls?

Ok I tried FREE OA, and I must admit I really like it.:thumb:

I am running Avira, will OA and Avira run and work together without any hassles?

    Ok thanks.

I will use OA + Avira then. If I use those 2 combo's, do I need anything else for security?

    Yes.
    1. Preferably use a Limited User Account/LUA for your daily routine (if you're not using that already).
    2. Keep all your programs up-to-date/patched (besides the OS), 'Secunia PSI' or 'Secunia OSI' can be useful for this.

Perhaps as an on-demand scanner (for a second opinion or a weekly/monthly scan), the free version(s) of 'MalwareBytes'Antimalware' and/or 'HitmanPro3'.

Make sure to read about LUA and all the mentioned programs, before using/installing them.

You can always add something like Shadow Defender, Returnil or Sandboxie to your setup.

    Hi Baserk,
TheMozart can also very easily use OA's Run Safer feature that, "helps protect against this (dangerous programs gaining admin rights) by automatically 'stepping down' the rights that your web-browser or any other program you run has to a 'limited' user." A user can simply elect to run all internet-facing applications in RunSafer mode. This is a tremendous advantage to using this firewall, in my opinion!

I've enjoyed reading the discussion and it's cleared a few things I was confused about with OA free and OA paid. :thumb:
I can now use OA free comfortably.

    Hi Page42,

Using OA free myself on one of my boxes so I'm familiar with 'run safer', it's just that I recommend a LUA as a standard safety measure.
I agree that 'run safer' is a real neat option though when using an admin account.

It's just that f.i. Firefox also uses it's plugin-container.exe and xul.dll and I'm not sure if TheMozart is aware of these little tidbits.

I'm going to add my 2 cents. OA++ and sandboxie is an excellent combo. I used to use OA++, sandboxie and MBAM realtime. That was a little excessive. Using run safer for things like adobe, winrar and winword are great options. One of my favorite combo's.

OK, a thought occured to me....

A couple of days ago I installed OA Free x64

let's say I'm lazy these days and do not feel like fiddling with the settings, ports etc and use the defaults

What type of information should and what type Could go out?

the exact specs of my system?
    the name of my laptop?

One last thingie, The data I consider vulnerable is in the vault of TrueCrypt.

Does OA has a purge button like in comodo so that all orphan entries in programs and firewall get deleted ?
