Been using "Premium" since I was a beta tester,Used the previous version with the separate firewall, also.Currently on 3 laptops at home.{thanks Sunbelt team}. It is extremely lite and quick. The firewall,if you choose to use it,may take some tweaking, and a little getting used to.I think the AV itself is tremendous!:thumb:

i use it pretty often as i already have the license offered by them and i confirm is one of the lightest AV out there ( Avast too is competitor to VIPER ) i confirm what the previous poster said. It has not participated yet into any of the comparatives but it is really fine.

I have beta tested from the days of GIANT > Counterspy > Vipre. ;)

But, you won't find me on the beta testing site. ;)

you can get a lot of opinions about vipre by searching wilders for vipre (title only) - there are literally 3-4 threads per month about it.

that being said, it's a great product with a reasonable price (especially the home site license) and their US tech support is phenomenal.

Good Morning ! Have been using Vipre Premium on and off for the past yr. and as Vipre and Counterspy in previous years. Runs as advertised without the bloat and hogging system resources. It basically catches tracking cookies...and it's deep scan in my opinion is a little on the long side of things...in my system over ninety minutes...but those are just minor quibbles...the firewall takes getting used to...but when configured runs silent and deep. But the main reason I'm loyal to Sunbelt and Vipre is their World Class Support and Customer Focused Attitude...you won't find a finer group of Individuals anywhere in the Industry. Sunbelt should have an Academy...to train other Companies Personnel in how to retain and treat the Customer...to inspire Long Term Loyalty. There's about Three European and Three American Companies that immediately come too mind in my experience. If you don't treat your customer like you yourself wish to be treated...then success especially long term simply won't take place. Sincerely...Securon

Using standalone AV on a snapshot for several months; very light if default Guard settings are changed so it does not scan "Check files when they are opened or copied" option which is located in VIPRE's Active Protection settings.

Advantages; very light, performance wise, fast "quick" scanner, cheap Home license. Support. Michael St. Neitzel on board.

Cons; Freezes seen when updating; detection abilities not really known. Long Full scan times. Development unknown with new company takeover. Tray icon by MS paint.

I would not run this AV as my primary defense because of its lack of testing so at the present time it runs alongside Sandboxie.

Using this for a long time now. Only problem I faced is related to updating. Previously it used to freeze the system while updating and now it does not updated automatically always.

I use it almost a year now ( the av version ). I confirm the problems mentioned and related to the update system. I can add one more thing. On a Pentium 4 3GHz and 2GB ram I have a serious delay since i type the login password and the moment the Vipre icon appears in tray. During this time the sytem is not responding properly. For the rest I find it stable and good.

It has detected during this year nothing...like the rest of my AVs ( Avira and Avast ). So my experience says that all these AVs have the same detection rate...LOL.

Their home site license is really great. I use it on my home network, mainly on PCs that are there for work and not on the "surf all day" or the "do everything" machines.

You're right. I should rephrase. I mean Vipre detected nothing because there was nothing to detect...clean system. :D
    Sorry for the confusion.

I had nothing but issues with it. Firewall would randomly let things in and out despite firewall rules and the AV would randomly turn itself off. If it wasnt one of those two issues popping up it was Vipre just not deciding to even start with the PC. So needless to say I passed the license off to my wife's dad who was due for a renewal on AVG.

I dont use the firewall component but just as AV its pretty good.. light and effective IME:D
and the AV turning itself off seems like self protection issue..Did this happen when a malware is present in the system?

I have to agree! Vipre, at least the solo AV version that I own (not the Premium), is really stable and never created issues that made me lose time. This is why, like I said, I have it on PCs that I use for work. Truth is...this last year I have noticed solid stability from other AVs too.

I've been using the Premium version since June when they offered a 2-yr home site license for $79. I'm not a fanboy but I really have no complaints. It was installed with no problems on 5 pc's after a fresh WinXP Pro install. It's kept my entire network clean. There's always room for improvement and in VIPRE's case I'd say:
    1) The updating process increases CPU usage like hell. But takes less than 1 min so that's fine for me.
    2) Also, the scans cause system hangs, but there's an option to run scans with low priority, so I can handle that myself.
    3) The firewall included in the Premium version causes file/printer sharing issues within the home network.
    4) The pop-ups thrown by the behavior blocking feature need to be more informative.
    5) The "whitelist" included in the behavior blocking feature lacks a bunch of legit software.
    6) A cloud analysis based on reputation within the ThreatNet community would be a nice bonus.
    7) True is that the "web shield" included in the Premium version blocks some legit domains, but one can manually allow them just by unchecking them.

Other than this, I personally think that VIPRE is one of the most underrated AV's. It's extremely light and the proactive detection is extremely effective. They sell it for an affordable price and the tech support/customer service is top-notch, which is a great value add for any product.

I didnt. At the time I was PO'd. So I uninstalled and called it a day.

Does VIPRE get along with PrevX SOL? Whats the latest version of VIPRE AV? And is everyone experiencing the update lag? And finally have they changed that god awful tray icon?

We have a core update which will hopefully be released tomorrow or the next day through a definitions update that should significantly decrease the amount of time it takes VIPRE to load our core. This should lower the amount of time it takes for VIPRE's service to start (should also help boot times) and should significantly improve performance during definition updates as well as how long it takes to apply them.

Edit: This core update has been released. We would definitely appreciate any feedback from users who were seeing performance issues starting VIPRE or updating definitions.

NickHSunbelt, any upcoming product tests that Vipre will be taking part in?
