I know that "will be done when will be ready", and I'm not asking about any date (but of corz it would be nice if you could reveal some info if its planning for next year or not).I think it's good time to do so.

others companies often publish on forums this kind of infos (avast, norton...) it would be nice to hear a little information from "insight" about planned improvements.

It's attracts attentions of users/magazines/ blogs - so from PR's point of view is a great advantage.

As you mentioned yourself most vendors do their new version in public . ESET , however , don't work like that - at least they never worked so - you might know that.

If I were you I wouldn't expect from them to share any information until it is really ready to get announced for the whole public.

From what I know ESET's new version will contain parental controls and some kind of version will be released somewhere in the middle of 2011 . However , I can't prove it so treat this information as semi-official.

Yup I'm aware that nod dev's are not very keen to shred some light on future projects. I just hope about some really little info from them. Anyway 3Guser thanks for some tips.
I will say that parental controls is not a feature that I'm waiting for with great impatience. Nowadays the market of av's is being more competitive than ever, especially that free av solutions become a really good equivalent to "commercial". So I see efforts from many vendors to develop new technologies more quickly (behavioral blockers, hips, sandboxies, cloud solutions). I'm aware that some of them are marketing tricks, and nod for example use some kind of "cloud" many years before others just under the name of "threat.sense.net". But anyway I have feeling that nod need to attract some new users by more "aggressive" products to survive in shrinking market.
I wish them (and me to as a nod user) luck but I'm afraid that parental control is less expected feature, and couldn't attract new users to it (I assume that they're cooking something extra for us but I hope that will not be to late)

ESET doesn't even share this information with the resellers - we read about version 4 launch in Wilders...

IMHO its not a good policy not to inform resellers... look at the avast forum, where dev's are constantly present, and respond to users feedback. Even sometimes drop some info about their plans to implement something in next version. Also they often explain why they choose this method instead of other. Results of this actions is clearly seen by number of commited avast user and a really great community.
And I see the interaction between community and avast team (often bugs or suggestion are taken in to account).
I don't see any disadvantage in talking about plans as they do. Silence from the vendor makes a vacuum and feel that noting happens.
I want to criticize eset becouse they run quite profitable business, but maybe it's worth to consider change of marketing strategy ?

I understand the reasoning - but when you have larger resellers with some very large clients (many thousand seat licenses) - when the customers ask for information, to have nothing to give them except "you may know before we do if you watch the forums every day" makes us look silly.

Some of the resellers like us put a LOT of money into ESET's wallet - it would be nice to have some prior knowledge - even if just a few days. It would aid in credibility with the customer base.

Information on the launch of version 3 was provided ahead of time at the partner conference - we each had to sign a non-disclosure - and that's fine - but we had been asked for months and months by some of our large clients about news on v3 - and we still didn't have anything we could give them - other than "yes, it's coming - very close - we can't tell you more..."

I hope not that sounds like bloat to me. Hopefully they'll only include it in the Smart Security package.

I don't mind parental controls or adding a basic sandbox for web browsers. Adding features is a way ESET can gain some users ie the Mom & Pa and normal everyday users which is a large untapped user base for them.

In my opinion, ESET is going in the right direction, unlike other vendors.

I really like the way in which ESET products are.
ESET is constantly updating its products through modules.
They dont have to wait for the next version to provide better protection.

@toxinon12345, please distinguish between updates of present modules which almost all vendors are doing on daily basic, and adding new features for future versions.

    Hello,

For information regarding new builds of products and completely new versions please check our support news page. It is also available through an RSS subscription.

    http://www.eset.com/rss/support-news

We run our products through a beta program to test them in the real-time with actual customers before releasing them for public purchase. The beta sites contain information regarding new features for a product. To see our beta site go to the following url:

    http://beta.eset.com/

Regarding virus signature updates and module updates, ESET security products receive daily updates. Released with the daily Virus Signature Database Update is an occasional module update. A module update is the latest version of a part of your ESET security product, e.g. a Scanner Module update will give you the latest version of that module replacing the version you had.

For any resellers, the ESET sales manager that works with you should be your main contact regarding what has been discussed in this thread. They will be able to assist you with any questions that you have or that your customers have been asking you. If you need assistance contacting your representative, I will help get you in touch with them.

    Thank you,
    Richard

    Hello Richard!

With all my respect , your post seems to be off-topic . You either don't understand or try to look like someone who doesn't want to understand but
this topic is talking about something else - not where you post news about final versions nor where you post public beta testing .

It is just your loyal clients and partner wondering why you don't share any news about future company plans . Silence means no plans which seems to be very bad.

People were wondering if you were doing something about new protection features improving the product you make . Other vendors in the industry seems to be far away from you and you are like Sleeping beauty.

Partners were all trying to tell you that the communication between vendor and partners/resellers (who actually sell and make money) is BROKEN.

ESET will never talk about publicly what is not 100% confirmed and sure in advance. It would definitely not be serious to our users to announce new features and deny them later when hurdles occur. At the right time, we will announce new versions of our products as well as a list of added features.

I will repeat it once again and I am sure many guys here agree with me - Silence means no definite plans! Because companies make plans for the next year or even more and they do their best to achieve them (by saying their best - this mean each and every employee strives and this plan is at least 90% sure) . You may be working on something but remaining silent will mean that you either have no end date (just trying) or you want to remain silent . However , remaining silent is a bad marketing practise - you are small , tiny and silent - this gains absolutely NO public attention . No/little attention is not what an international company generally wants .

But this is not a my problem any more - hopefully

So in your opinion i e. Avast and Norton aren't serious companies ?
Both introduce in advance their plans... (and also withdraw from some of it like "pulse updates" in Avast. BTW, avast say openly about their plans in 5.1 version (and in v. 6 as well).

geez, we are becoming so ridiculous about software security. So much so, we label vendors as worthless because they dont tell us all their secrets. Give me a frigging break 3GUSER. How Eset handles its future has no bearing on what you are even talking about.

Oh, I am going to buy this product because they announce future plans exactly 6 months before it is released. How stupid does that sound.

Anyway, I am not looking for it but about 5 months ago someone posted a link to a Eset rep who talked a little about what the future products would have. Sorry, gotta run and dump GDATA as they missed the deadline for letting me know ahead of time what the next release would have,:cautious:

I was on newegg, and noticed that they are advertising a free upgrade to 5.0 when it is released with purchases of ESET NOD32 4.. That is really the only thing in regards to version 5.0 which I heard.. I know the big trend right now is cloud based reputation, safe dns, and sandboxing.. That is all nice but I'd prefer to see ultra lightweight AVs for netbooks with 1GB of ram and single core processors with added detection rates through traditional methods.

there is a thing called road map, which is definitely scarce with Eset... ...most road maps do not show so much of future features in details but at least a rough path, and goals to be achieved within time frames. where is the benefit of denying such info?

don't read too much into the text on the newegg.com site - if you find a v3 CD to buy cheap that has not been activated, you can upgrade to v4.2 - that's just how ESET licensing works. Their text is more likely just a marketing ploy to make people think they should buy that CD from Newegg.

btw - anyone who buys 4.2 from us - will get a free upgrade to v5 - offer good until launch of v5 - whenever that is... ;)
