TuneUp Utilities 2011

Its out, do you think its worth the upgrade?
I have already installed it and to me it seems its only a cosmetic change, what are your opinion?

I think TuneUp Utilities is a really nice program to speed up your PC, but more for just a one time use, when you just re-installed your PC with or just one that never has been optimized. It is has some great optimizing for windows and programs settings and the recommendations for example turning of the Java start-up entry and instead automatically configure it to run with task manager once in a while, it's also nice for security like disabling remote registry access and administrative shares of the system drive which are both on by default and not many people know about these. It also does a lot more than most similar programs. However, functions to keep your PC optimized like defragmenting, cleaning registry, disabling start-up entries etc. can also be done manually and with other free programs. The live optimization and turbo mode is not needed after you optimize your PC that thoroughly unless you have really old and slow hardware. So in my opinion, unless you want the easy and automatic optimization and realtime/turbo mode etc. it's not worth it, however I do strongly recommend it to run at least the trial version once on every PC to optimize and change settings etc. The price tag is also a bit high IMO $30 for an upgrade and $50 for a new customer. The 2011 version does feature some new stuff though. A new community rating feature for start-up entries, a program disabler for programs you don't use much(disables their start-up entries, services, scheduled tasks and more), improved turbo mode and a new and IMO better GUI.

 

In my Windows 7 32-bit,
the Shredder Tool has been problematic (2010 and 2011 versions).
It creates new empty Folders after erasing Data.

 

While I use features of TuneUp Utilities every day, I keep telling myself I won't buy upgrades then invariably do after I receive their e-mail with offers to purchase the new upgrade for $20 if I do so in the weeks just prior to its release. I didn't care for the GUI changes in the 2010 version. IMHO nothing has improved in the 2011 version and the GUI is even worse. That's the problem with saving $10 by purchasing the pre-release upgrade offer: you have no way of knowing if the program has actually improved or if you'll like whatever new changes they made.

That happens very infrequently with me (erasing a folder's contents while still leaving behind the empty folder). When it does, I use Ace Utilities' shredder to erase the empty folder.

 

TuneUp Utilities is one of the best all-in-one optimizer software. Not much changed, but the new Deactivator is a good thing. I have a few softwares that i use once in a month but it has some background services running, so i deactivate with TuneUp deactivator and no background services, no startup entries and i dont have to uninstall it. For novice users this is a good feature. Also the rating service is quite useful. The new GUI changed a lot, more simple and more easier to find the seperate tools like disk defragmenter or junk file cleaner.

So for me its worth the money. The turbo mode is useful on notebooks, especially if you use the notebook from battery, it saves more energy by shutting down unneeded services(you can configure it if you want it). The live optimization is good to, i think its similar to Process Lasso, but im not sure.

 

I only tried TU 2011 to see if they Fixed (they didn't...) the Shredder issue they had since TU 2010.
When renaming files -so that they will Not have a suffix (e.g. txt, jpg etc.)-
and then, using the Shredder, the problem becomes more evident...

Can anyone tell me about the any issues with this? I am thinking of getting this but after reading CNET (download.com) negative posts I was discouraged. Some posters mentioned messed-up pc or crashed systems, etc. after using tuneup utilities 2011 and generaly stay away posts there. So has anyone here throughly tested this software and can tell me if it causes problems in windows 7? Thanks in advance.

I already got screwed by comodo system cleaner by screwing my windows 7 ( I had to go back to an old snapshot to fix it). So please let me know if there is any danger on using tuneup utilities. Also can anyone suggest a similar safe software that does all this, including startup, services cleaning and turning off of not needed running background services, etc.

 

I've been using TuneUp Utilities since 2004 and never had any problem with it, including on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. However, I'm entirely underwhelmed with the 2011 upgrade. It doesn't add any benefit to me over previous versions. TuneUp Utilities' registry cleaner is very conservative.

 

No, its working fine on Windows 7 64bit here. Never had any problems with TuneUp.
