Well, that is true when you look at UAC as HIPS. When I first installed Vista 64 on my son's PC. I was especially annoyed by the fact that it did not had a remember. So I noticed every one with average PC knowledge just clicking away. As someone with some more knowledge I was also irritated by the little info I got when something happened. In a post in 2007 I called UAC

But the benefit of UAC and Vista is that most legitemate programs are signed nowadays.

ROGER THAT, MAN, and thanks again. Am doing a double install of Win 7 onto the SAME partition -- 2 different copies of the same OS -- with a Win 98SE load as well already on the drive. Can boot this way so that I get a prompt to run a 98 XCOPY32 restore batch from one copy of Win 7 to the other in case of an infection or -- worse -- not watching what I'm doing.

I can't help it, but after a round of testing various programs I always end up with going back to ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Windows Firewall: enabled, Windows Defender: enabled
    UAC: always notify
DEP: enabled for all programs and processes, SEHOP: enabled for all programs and processes

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2

    Hitman Pro 3.5

Internet Explorer 9, using ClearCloud DNS (newly added)

NOD32 also has very low false positives, one of the most important things for me in an AV, since I'm just an average user and could get into trouble making decisions on what to allow.

I agree with that. I liked using NOD32 when it was installed on my laptop Excellent AV in my eyes.

Trying out DefenseWall (again) with either Avast or F-Secure.
Hard choice as I really like them both - very light AV's and good for a gaming rig.

Amazed by Ilya's support. The first time I tried DefenseWall, Sysinternals Process Monitor was crashing every time I started it up. I posted in Gladiator Forums, wondering if anyone else saw this behavior. Ilya answered me himself with a few ideas. We then continued troubleshooting through email exchanges as he would send me a set of test drivers, I would try them out, report the results to him, and so on. The issue was never completely resolved, and I told him, when I had time, I would revert to an image I had of just Windows 7 (no third party drivers or apps).
I would then install DW and Process Monitor, and then start installing the rest of my programs, testing Process Monitor along the way. I'll give this a go later this week.

My point is, all this work on his part without me being a paying customer (yet), just some guy trying out DW.
I've never seen support like this, and in my mind warrants the price of DW itself. Of course the fact that it's a fantastic, solid security program helps too.:thumb:
