Superfast SSDs are coming, but will they be used the right way?

Hmmm, at those prices I think I'll just learn to utilize my 3 or so gig ramdrive a bit more and for a bit longer.

Those are some ridiculous read and write speeds. 1.4GB/s!
Would be nice to have that, although the price is pretty high.

And they are only a couple inches by a couple inches - might as well get two!

I actually think hybrid drives are the way to go - unless you are simply seeking bragging rights.

 

I was excited about those when they were released, but after asking people on other forums that had actually used one (I will say that I have not) I was told they really aren't any better than a standard hard disk in daily usage and won't come close to an actual SSD.

 

They are a compromise not a substitute for SSDs. The latest hybrids have several gigabytes of flash memory on board and use "fetching" technologies to learn how you use your computer so, after a short learning period, load times are faster. It still depends on how you use your computer. If your routine is disk intensive, then SSDs may be worth the investment. But most people do not use programs that are constantly banging on the drives - assuming they have a decent amount of RAM.
