Just for the hell of it I'm trying a trial version of Avast! Internet Security.
It has little or no discernible effect on my Windows7 64 bit system.
Boot-up is quick and web filters and virtualisation have minimal effect, too.
I like that it can be set to scan SSL emails - the method is interesting in that you have to tell Avast the settings for your SSL email and then set your mail client to work non-SSL.
Avast! scans in and out in non-SSL mode & then actually sends or receives your mail in SSL mode - cool. (I use Thunderbird with Gmail's POP & SMTP servers)
If I was in the habit of paying for software, I would be very tempted by this offering!

Avast scored 99.2% on detection for trojans, on the last on demand test in August by AV-C.

Have there been any tests on the effectiveness of Avast's sandbox?

Interestingly when I click on any of the "BUY" buttons, anywhere in the interface, all I get is a small window telling me that it is gathering more information.
A short while later, with no other action, the window closes!
Don't they WANT me to buy it?

Can someone show some screen shots of the firewall? I'm looking around for a girl friend. Avast suite looks real good. Is the FW application based or rule based or what?

I have used the free Avast in the past on an older computer and think I will give the new version a shot on this PC (Win 7)....Kaspersky hasn't been a problem but I like the energy I see from the folks that use Avast! Sounds impressive!

I own KIS and like it to. So I am not going to cross that line. Try it for yourself, try the suite and you judge. The price right now cant be beat, especially on a 2 year license. They have 2 newer versions coming out in time, that will make the current version very obsolete.;)

Avast has always been one of my favorites; my fallback AV. It still is.
However, it has not shown very well on the AV Comparatives Whole Product Dynamic Test for September.

I just got the notification that the results are on the AVC website.

    Regards,
    Jerry
