One cannot directly use this link . If somebody wants a trialware , they have to visit the Symantec website Business section -> Trialware , register a Symantec Account and download trialware (this is for any business product).

AvinashR, this update has been out since July, 28 this year. If your employer uses SEP they are entitled to obtain this update for free through Symantec FileConnect by logging in using its SEP serial number.

My employer however, provides us with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i [ finally  updated to the recently released patch 4].

However, McAfee Enterprise lets a lot of fake AVs and Trojans slip through employees computers thus, causing a lost in productivity and a down time for them and our IT Dept. trying to clean their computers; [well, before you ask, everyone in our company runs as a Restricted User on an XP SP-3 environment].
Also, from what I've gathered reading the Symantec SEP forums, employers running this software also get frequently hit by fake AVs, Trojans, etc.

Thus, both business solutions aren't the best of the best when it comes to detection and prevention.

    Regards,

    Carlos

My company also uses McAfee and I work in the IT dept. It also does a horrible job of letting rootkits through as well and false positives galore. Trying to clean an already infected computer with McAfee is a waste of time as well. Also in some cases dragging the system performance down. I beg the higher ups to change to a better solution. They are considering symantec endpoint and to me it looks exactly the same.

If you (your company) look at Symantec , I strongly recommend you/they ask for Symantec Hosted Endpoint Protection - new product/service : http://www.symantec.com/about/news/release/article.jsp?prid=20101006_02 .
It uses a bit newer technologies than those used in the regular/classic Symantec Endpoint Protection + it uses Ubiquity (the cloud) . Protection and management are on higher level.

Make sure they mention the local reseller or Symantec sales guy that McAfee is currently used - they'll get a discount.

    I don't know this product's price.

Symantec Hosted Endpoint Protection uses a modified Norton client - so yes, it does have SONAR and Insight (the Consumer name for Ubiquity). It does have first rate detection and malware removal.

However, SHEP is not for large enterprises, nor does it have all the features you are probably used to in an enterprise class solution such as:

    NAC
    Device Control
    Application Control
Reporting and Central Management appropriate for large organizations
Multi-dimensional analysis and reporting (IT Analytics)
    Mac & linux support
