Hello! I'm looking for a good freeware backup program primarily for data backup, i.e. documents, pictures, videos, etc, to use together with an external hard drive. This is for someone with no technical skills so it will need a good scheduling component to automate the backups. If the program can also make full disk images that would be good, but not essential. When do you suggest? (no need to get into a dreaded A vs B  ) Thanks!

Without getting into a dreaded A vs B, may I suggest Synkron - which has very good scheduling options (but doesn't do full disk images).

It's solid, silent, rapid and quite easy to set up tasks.

Another vote for Synkron. I've looked at numerous other options like Karen's Replicator, FreeFileSync and Toucan but I'm literally no good with batch files to automate tasks and I needed portability.

Here's the portable version that I use everyday: http://portableapps.com/node/21036.

Sounds interesting,,,,,will it keep versions of the files or does it just overwrite/update them.

For simple data backup I would suggest Cobian Backup.
It is very simple, never failed to me, and has some nice features, like compression, encryption, send log by mail etc...
