Now this is what I call fast service, I reported URLvoid as a FP and in one min I got a response email from the labs telling me it will be fixed in the next update. WOW! I am impressed.

Trying out ClearCloud DNS. I am using the utility as I am not on a network. It uses about 6 MB (runs a tray.exe). The advantage is you can rapidly turn it off if you want to switch (no need to type the server # in network connections or router). So far no slowdowns :)

    Languy99 did a review FWIW: http://www.youtube.com/user/languy99#p/u/7/Asn3Bp4asro

    Also testing this.
    So far so good.
I would like to have the choice of which categories I'd like filtered though (like OpenDNS).

ClearCloud doen't filter content at all. Their focus is only on malware.

Anyone knows whether this service will remain free after the beta period ? They react lightning fast when informed about FP. Service itself is also great, so it would be a pity if they start charging for it ;)

I have been ClearCloud for the past 5 days and so far so good. Malware is all I'm worried about anyway.

The Sunbelt site has been down for several hours. I first noticed it late this afternoon. Can't reach the main site or the support forums. It's been down for at least 5 hours, possibly longer.

I've been trying Clear Cloud, via their applet activation, for around a fortnight, on a Windows 7, 64 bit system.
I found quite a few sites which it blocked, including at least one F.P.
I have just removed the program as it was apparent that it was delaying boot up considerably, including the start of CIS.
Removing it HAS cured the boot delay, so I have manually entered their DNS servers address in my router and my own laptop, (probably overkill but..... ;) ), while leaving 'er indoors' laptop just with ZA free & MSE.

ClearCloud setup on my router for several days, with no apparent problems whatsoever.

    No apparent slowups or delays.

There are some reviews, testing DNS-blocking of selected malware sites. Blocked a few and missed a few. Nothing's perfect.

    Just another protection layer.

Not intended as a content-blocker, purely malware-site-blocker. Still allows porn sites, for example, unless those sites have malware.

I must say I'm quite surprised with it. Really fast. I don't see a damn difference between it and my own ISP's DNS servers, which offer no additional security.

I've already modified my family member's systems to use it. It's one additional malware protection source.

    Agree,

My wife's laptop is an AMD X2 1.6 Ghz with 50MB/s throughput 5200 RPM harddisk and a video card scoring only 2.9 on the WEI. Allthough a windows 7 ultimate x32, I only run LUA with SRP deny on useless programs installed by Win7 and 1806 deny execute ADS for downloads and e-mail attachements.

No extra security software so most blacklisting is done on servers, not our PC's. She uses IE8 (locked through Group Policy) with smartscreen, using Google as search engine (also has a safe search check on their servers). Our ISP which provides e-mail service also checks e-mails, the Sunbelt Clearcloud DNS is reasonable fast considering the extra security.

To my surprise she is practising safe-hex now. Yesterday she told me she refused to send her creditcard data to a Hotel when organising a trip to Rome with her friends. She also told me to only use IDEAL for on-line shopping for companies she did not know (and only use creditcard for known trusted companies like Airlines etc).

I asked what had made her change her mind about security (she allways told me I was afraid of ghost on the web, because she had never heard about fraud in her social network or on work ever).

A friend of her got her ass saved by the banking company who refused to accept a credit card payment request from abroad for a tailored suite. She got called on her mobile phone by the bank to allow payment. She was in the Netherlands and very surprised. The kind bank employee asked her whether she used her CreditCard a lot for on-line shopping (she does) and explained the risks plus good hex.

The laptop boots in 32 secs and without transparency effects it runs well. So off-load blacklist checking is a blessing for older PC's. I am confident this setup is okay, now she practises safe hex. No software can compensate for user stupidity.

Anyone else use ClearCloud DNS with Firefox and NoScript?

I have been using it for a week now and I have gone looking for blocked sites. I believe I have found some, but I do not get the ClearCloud block page, I get the NoScript logo and the ip address in the upper left corner of my screen. If I right-click on NoScript logo, the options available deal with the blocked ip address and not with the ClearCloud block page.

When I click on the two links ClearCloud provide on their home page I get the ClearCloud block page.

    Can anyone explain this?

I'm also trying to deploy a very light security into an Acer Aspire 1640 with an 60GB hard disk and 2GG RAM.
    Will disable uneeded services.

This laptop was actually infected, and my family member was using Windows XP. Unfortunately, in an Admin. account because it was the only way to work without issues.

I tried to bring some fear into the mixture (I'm a mean person! ;)).

I believe something like AVG LinkScanner won't hurt. I'm also considering to install avast! 5 only with Web Shield enabled.

AVG Linkscanner + avast! 5 Web Shield + Sunbelt ClearCloud DNS make a great threesome. :D Won't be heavy, at all. Very light. Already gave it a bit testing. But, not definitive. Perhaps, I'll just go with LinkScanner.
Then, of course, there's SmartScreen, which also does a great job.

I'm also considering AppLocker. Once I finish installing everything, then it will be easy to use whatever needs to be run. The problem is deploying it, and most don't know how; so, that hassle is taken care. I'll see how it goes.

I've also hardened IE8 not to allow iframe, not to download fonts, not to allow websites in zones with less privileges to access zones with higher privileges.
Flash will be on per-site choice, as needed.

I've set a Chromium profile for Youtube only. So, nothing but Youtube will be accessible. I'll do the same for Facebook. In case of tricking my family member into clicking something, no redirection will happen. It's also set with an explicit Low IL. ;)

Also setting Windows Firewall with Advanced Security for outbound protection and a few inbound connections blocked as well.

Yeah, some people don't believe dangers are real. It's wonderland for them. Until the day something bad happens either to them or to someone they know.

I haven't count the boot time, but it's really fast. Obviously, I still haven't installed Linkscanner, etc. That's why nothing is definitive. I'll have to keep a balance between usability, speed and security.
