Windows 7 Ultimate with Applocker enabled, 32 bit
gonna run something alongside Avast free- either AVG ID Protection, Mamutu, Prevx Paid, Online Armor with Hips enabled or PC Tools firewall 7 when it comes out - some combo of those with Avast, what do you thik?

If I go Online Armor with HIPS enabled I probably won't use anything else besides Avast

If you want to block web-content such as porn, drugs etc.. then you could just use OpenDNS :)
No need to buy a whole suite for that ;)

    A built-in front-end for the firewall?
    Agreed, "common sense".

I got my mom to switch from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome. Not only is the latter faster than the former, it is also more secure. Internet Explorer was responsible for installing rogue AVs and spyware in the past. With Google Chrome, she is not susceptible to rogues and spyware. To enhance the security, I configured the router to use ClearCloud DNS. That ought to shut down malware delivered via social engineering. Avira Antivir Personal is the realtime antivirus.

how exactly does a browser all of a sudden make her "not susceptible to rogues and spyware"? last time i checked, chrome altho good, doesn't protect ur computer, its not a piece of security software

i also dont see how IE is responsible for her installing a rogue AV? with either browser, if she clicks the wrong things, theres a chance shes gunna get a rogue, no browser is gunna stop that every single time.

Yeah although people say IE has many security holes not many drive by's I have seen are coming through activex. The one drive by exploit that hit my machine before was a Java exploit.

The only way a browser would be more secure is if it blocked all pluggins on each page unless you clearly click allow for the script. Though that would only work for some people for most people will click run anyway.

As far as I know, Google Chrome has an internal sandbox which should mitigate malware attacks. Chrome also has a built-in web shield that blocks known malware sites. I forgot to mention that I also have Immunet Protect running alongside Avira and that I also installed WOT.
