    Hello all,

we've just published a new stable build 5.0.0.81 of Anti-Malware.

    summary of news:

    * Introducing Server Mode: File Guard now starts immediately after booting the system without visible guard needed (in system tray). No logged on user needed for protection.

    * Introducing a new Email Notification feature at the File Guard. Useful in combination with server mode to get a notice about detected and quarantined malware.

    * Surf protection now fully supports Internet Explorer on Win 7 x64.

    * Optional redirect for blocked hosts in Surf Protection feature added.
Blocked websites display "Blocked by Emsisoft Anti-Malware".

    * Reduced number of alerts by avoiding duplicates of the same (behavior) alerts.

    * Modified and simplified the update settings dialog for better usability.

    * Wine support for Commandline Scanner added.

    * Many bugfixes and minor improvements for better stability.

    Regards,

I had a full version from the giveaway at the Calendar of Updates forum a couple of months ago.

Now I have the update to this new version it has converted it into a free version and won't accept the code saying it is not valid or has already been used.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    stapp,

The code is only used once to attach a license duration to your Emsi account.

You need to enter your Emsi account username (e-mail) and password in the license screen (Configuration > License)

Click on "Refresh Licenses" and select the license you want to use, click on it once.
The Freeware license will always appear in that screen.

That you so much for the instructions, I am now back to having a full version again.

I had tried most of those things the bit I missed out was clicking once on the full license at the end.

    Thanks again :)

Thanks subratam for update :) My copy automatically updated to latest build. It is working very well and fast. In change log, you have not mentioned updated engines.

Service must be kept active, but if the tray icon app (guard)is closed, the file guard is still watching invisibly.

It is included as "minor improvements", and not mentioned separately

I'm sorry utter rubbish here! :(

First time I try to run it after the installation, it locked up the desktop for about 2 mins before it finally responded and began running.

a2service.exe what a memory hog on startup consuming around 145MB Ram and if you're running XP with only a small amount of ram, well you can kiss it good bye to the Page File and then find yourself because of a2service.exe your system using around 350-400MB Ram after only running one or two apps. Everytime on my XP box without fail, just running Firefox with 1-2 tabs open the box ends up running at 350-400MB Ram. I consider this very high ram consumption, only having EAM running resident with Firefox! :thumbd:

Then the pit of all pits, while Anti-Malware was running resident in the taskbar, every 1-2 mins it kept crashing Firefox 3.6.10

Thank goodness I have a nice Image For Windows image that I reinstalled to get rid of this junk! :thumbd:

I'm sorry Emsisoft to be so harsh but this version and the one previous have given me nothing but problems, TWO versions in a row.

To me this is like BETA software that shouldn't even be released, especially with the running services, they really pull down systems, making them run much slower. In fact on an Win7 x64 box with 4GB of ram it even slows down quite a bit running this program, really terrible! :thumbd:

    You are right.

I have it on Freeware mode and a2service.exe has increased a lot. Now its around ~145M, before (before updating to this version 5.0.0.81) it was something like 6M.

Booting time has increased too. Dont know why, because its suposed to be the Freeware mode.

For know I've uninstalled it. :'(

Ashampoo did a much better job even when using the same engine. May be turning off behavior monitor in EAM would have tamed it a bit. It didn't even last that long on my system for me to have made that tweak and checked. I was totally put off by the message displayed by Windows 7 Action Center when shutting down the system - Emsisoft Antimalware is turned off. Every single time. Also, when booting the system, the icon displayes a red dot for a few secs during which the system freezes for a couple of seconds. This is unacceptable. It's sad to see a product with such excellent detection and such poor performance.
    avast/ NOD32 's performance and EAM's detection - that would be a killer combo.

The problem is caused by a bug in the option to enable the File Guard without a user being logged on. Usually you shouldn't have access to the File Guard at all but on some Freeware mode installations the mode got enabled by accident. This causes the slower boot and higher RAM usage compared to the previous version where the File Guard option was completely disabled.

We already fixed the issue and an update should be available shortly.

I use Emsisoft Emergency Kit, and in the settings for a custom scan, Heuristic scan for unknown Malware is off by default. With Deep scan this is not configurable. Does a deep scan also do a Heuristic scan for unknown malware or not?

I'm not using any freeware mode I have a licensed version and it constantly shot up extreme amounts of ram on start up killing the page file.

Also the realtime engine if this is whatever you call it, every time you do something on the system it is slowed down by it's process needed to watch things.

Anti-Malware is a resource hog plain and simple... :(

Don't know what Emsisoft have done but they have ruined a rather good product. On my Win XP SP3 desktop, the paid 5.0.0.81 version crashes Firefox 3.6.10 and locks up the PC with alarming regularity. The only way around these problems seems to be to deactivate the File Guard and Behavior Blocker. Let's hope Emsisoft don't ruin OA too.

I also had a Firefox problem with EAM. FF all of a sudden wouldn't close. I had to go into task manager to shut it down. Really a shame as I just purchased a new license about a month ago. Pretty much was ignored on E's message board when I reported the trouble (best answer was FF extensions which I have been using for YEARS without issue.

Resolved the problem by putting EAM as an on demand and going with Comodo. C'est dommage!

lol because u had a bug (something all programs of any kind will face) u say theyve not ruined the product and will possibly ruin future products... that makes no sense... for a product to be ruined u wuld need to see consistant failure over long periods of time, not a little update that gave u some problems.

The problems are not unfortunately associated with FF alone. Right-clicking on a file, for example, often leads to a freeze-up when the EAM File Guard is active. What is more, only re-booting seems to bring the computer back to life in these cases.

It's not a bad product... this is the high cost of having 2 engines running real-time. I've experienced some other issues with another dual-engine AV...

No, the deep scan does not carry out Heuristic scan.

Regarding EAM issues, We are trying to reproduce the mentioned incompatibilities and will keep you updated.
Personally, I have not faced the right-click freeze-up issue yet but will keep a note about that.

    Regards
