That is indeed the tough part of this topic... picking one and not two or three.
Since few of us can imagine using just one app, our brains resist the instruction to select just one.
But all of that aside, going purely with the thread topic to pick the "most favorite", I would have to say avast! Free. ;)

Shadow Defender, Returnil 2008, Online Armor, NOD 32, and Avira AV.

P.S. I will probably be adding Appguard to this list when the new fully compatible verion for 64bit comes out.

    Mine:

    • Firefox + NoScript running Sanboxed [ in Sandboxie, of course]
    • ESET NOD32 v4.2.64.12
    • For on-demand scanning [every once in a while ]: MBAM and SAS

All this running on Windows 7 Professional [Win XP NO-MORE]

Hmmm....forgot to include a back-up of what's on my computer HDD on a USB HDD kept in a safe place if something goes wrong and I have to start over again.

    Sandboxie and FD-ISR.

If I had to pick one from a few years ago it would be Ewido. There was nothing like the red flashing light coupled with the very loud siren when it found a nasty to give you a near heart attack :D

I get very much confused when some1 asks me about this because it kees on changing all times. At present I am getting a fan of Vipre Premium because of its all around balanced protection.

Just complementing, WinPatrol is also excellent, and deserves to be quoted in my post.

    Hi:

Well defensewall has weak-points (certain stuff pass through) and not 100% effective as it is mentioned in AV-comparative single appl. test. Also geswall on several youtube tests showed malware by passed it so not 100% secure either. SO far the best I have seen from all the youtube test videos (100 of them) Appguard got perfect. Also sandboxie was not immune either. It did not stop some malware once you choose to save some safe application on hard disk and its outside sandbox (malware could hide inside safe applications). From all the videos and research I done so far Appguard was the winner. So this is my view.

Now I think Appguard + Norton antivirus + Comodo firewall with Defense plus (set to maximum by setting its sandbox setting from "partial Trust" to "block" for unknown detections) plus DEP and UAC with fully updated windows should be safe.
