Is Defensewall Correct App?

Hi,

I help clean infected computers for my computer club 4000+ members, who have very minimum knowledge. I get repeat customers sometimes they will go 6 months, or so, & they get re-infected. Have not used this app I've been virtual for quite sometime:

1. Can Defensewall be used on/by very very Noobs? Without too many problems?

2. When they pick up there machines, what 5 minute instructions should be given, regarding Defensewall?

3. What's the diff between the $29.95 & 39.95 versions?

Ad 1 my Wife used it and my mother still uses it. The first is convinced that all boys toys are designed complex on purpose so women leave them alone because it is so boring. The second is born in 1933, so make an educated guess

When you want to install something right click and run as trusted.

Ad 3
Without or with a super user friendly firewall

So DW block(s), so no user interaction is required, then an AV scan will remove. When do the ladies use the 'Big Red Button'

That's r-click the new installer package? Then 'run as trusted'

The FW requires no interaction, like 'XP's' or 'Router's w/SPI'...?

Great protection and very easy to use. I've been a user now over a year.

 

1. If you need to install an application, save it into the "Documents" or "Desktop" folder, DW will automatically prompt to install it as trusted.
2. If you need to update a browser (FireFox, Opera), right-click on its icon and run as trusted. IE and Chrome both has external updating mechanisms.

There is, also, an issue about installing new plugins, but this is not recommended for Noobs to install them anyway.

 

It's, practically, took down to absolutely minimum. It is possible to even totally avoid popup windows with FW questions, and everything will be working fine (most time).

My license ran out a couple of days ago, I know it will continue without updates if I don't renew but I am still using Xp Pro sp3 and wonder if updates are only in respect of later operating systems and not pertinent to Xp.

I have for the last 5/6 weeks also been browsing under Sandboxie by running the default browser which also implements DefenseWall running the browser untrusted.

I am unsure if this is overkill or strengthened security, I intended just trying Sandboxie but running it automatically started DefenseWall

Renewal is discounted but is it necessary

 

Alot of us run both together

 

Cool but do you know if future updates would be relevant to a system still running xp and not likely to change until forced

 

The future updates will be still relevant to all the Windows 32 bit versions right from the 2k.

Ilya, just renewed tonight but the registration is showing as 10.2.2010-10.2.2011 despite it being 1.10.2010, please advise.

Just realised is it a different date format being month-day-year instead of the UK usual day-month-year format,if it had shown 10.1.2010 I may have twigged earlier, my mistake, sorry

I think you can mention Defensewall anywhere and Ilya will find it. I have seen comments about Defensewall in a number of different places and Ilya invariably shows up. The man is taking care of his baby!

I am currently testing DefenseWall Personal Firewall (3.07) against numerous types of threats including stuxnet, TDSS/TDL3, Drooptroop, Safesys, and many others. So far, DefenseWall rocks and nothing escaped from its solid protection (sandbox, virtualization, strict/tested policies). I even install SRWare Iron (6.0.475.1) as untrusted (from USB) and was able to rollback successfully without any trace
