So I've used the Free version for a few days and I had to unistall it due to be too heavy on my system (I'm on Windows XP). I think I'll wait 2-3 months and try it again :(.

If it's not too heavy for Atom N270, 1,5GB of RAM and WinXP SP3, i can hardly see how it can be too heavy for anything else.

I'm on a Pentium 4 3Gz, 2 Gb Ram and Windows XP SP3 and I do feel the difference. I installed AVG the same day it came out, made 2 full scans to make sure everything was cached and waited to it to settle down... to not avail. Maybe is because I always set Avast to scan only on writting (I couldn't find that option in AVG), I really don't know. Anyway, any comp is a world apart :).

Thanks for your report. The compatibility issues confirmed and solved, will be published with the next, 3.08 version of DefenseWall.

did you invoke the command line scan via cmd.exe or did you use the windows run dialog or double clicking the exe to start the scan?

I double clicked the exe. Even getting to it via Start/All Programs did this so I assume it's just a command scanner in Safe mode?

I installed paid version of AVG today, and after testing recent links from mdl I'm completely disappointed - it missed 14/20... anyway now it seems that I can't uninstall avg (after clicking on uninstall nothing happens) - I created ticket and waiting for an answer. I couldn't find any avg removal tool for avg 2011 :( so now I stuck with it for some time..

Faced the same issue, had to restore image. I hate AVG with a passion for this crap.

Did the Identity Protection block anything?

Does any one know if AVG has a support forum, besides the free one? I could never find that information at their website.

I wonder why they wouldn't have one. Pretty much every security vendor has one. What do they fear?

When I tested it yesterday, almost all malware samples (dw'ld from MDL) were caught by IdP. The thing is that it let's them run and then they are caught... Doesn't seem to have strong heuristics but rather relies a lot on IdP. I guess that's why they included it even in the freebie...

Well hopefully the IDP stand alone continues to be developed. I'm running it alongside Avast free and all seems ok. If IDP stand alone is truly abandoned then I'm trying something else with Avast.

I'm waiting for an email response from Grisoft of whether the stand alone will be developed further. I'll post what I find out from them. For some reason my stand alone is version 9.0.921 build 257 but I hear that the IDP in AVG free is build 258.

You're supposed to get one use for free, though I haven't tried it.

I clicked "Show details". It was a Sharp scanner app looking for the device.
The firewall setting is "Small Home or Office".

In AVG Internet Security, the PC Analyzer scans, but allows me to clean one-time only for free. For all subsequent cleaning, the user has to pay for AVG PC TuneUp.

In the UK at least, retail versions of AVG IS 2011 will ship with PC TuneUp for free, so I've been told. Release mid-October.

The bad part is They Need fix a Better key System like panda And bullguard to connect to the Server before its working, becouse now all keygens working for the New Version, and now avg pc analyzer are able to get it free with the crack who did come out yasterday.

That's why AVG does not allow to install it as an optional component. I guess it's a way to force the "sensitive minds" into buying the other software, thinking it has something to do with security.

Let's face it, most users wouldn't know something like is non-essential from a security point of view.
We know better, but most won't.

Sounds like extortion to me. Why would paying customers that already paid for PC Analyzer have to buy some other tool to clean what PC Analyzer detects that needs cleaning, after a one time use?... In a very simple word: Extortion.

BitDefender Total Security and others have these sort of cleaning tools, but for what I know their paying customers aren't restrict to just one use. They paid for it, they use it. I never heard of anyone complaining about such components from other vendors, so it must mean that they can use them all the time. It makes sense, because they paid for it.

almost all of my samples that hasn't been detected by resident scan was caught by idp..

so I strongly agree with this acr1965 statement

Well, I actually got my license renewed from the AVG eStore, and I didn't get AVG PC TuneUp. I guess retail versions have something different going on......

Good luck to you if you try and use a cracked version of a security tool. More fool you!

Plain daft when you can buy a 1-PC, 1-Year version of AVG Internet Security v9 for <$8 and simply download Internet Security 2011 and upgrade, for free.

    Chris.
