Why? I quit the installation, so why does it copy itself to the Program Files folder against my will? That's rogue behaviour.

Every time I close it, it opens My Documents folder. Why?

And all that private info collecting, is it really necessary? Couldn't you leave an option not to share that data?

Until you have these things changed, I am uninstalling it (I hope there will be no problems about that at least).

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

HitmanPro35.exe is NOT an installer. It IS the application as you can also run it from USB stick. If you do not want to make it copy to Program Files just specify /noinstall command line switch.

With the first releases we did not copy our selfs. But people lost their HitmanPro35.exe download and we got lots of phone calls from people saying they lost their purchased product.

As stated in my previous post, we will move the copy operation to AFTER the EULA.

It is there since it is consulting a web service. The thing with internet is that when you browse to a web page you are sending your IP, OS version and type of browser with EVERY request. This is not related to Hitman Pro but inherent to web browsers and the internet.

What we are collecting is the installed AV (name and version) and its state. This info is read from the Security Center.

We use this information for reports like this one:
    http://www.surfright.nl/en/home/press/32-percent-infected-despite-antivirus

We state that we collect this information. But I can tell you that almost every other AVs sends IP, OS, browser, detected threats to their servers to calculate reputation and correlate outbreaks. Where do you think AVs get their info of top 20 threats or construct their virus watch radars (like here)?

It is not high on our to do list. Also it could require a Shell Extension and since we are not installing software on the end user computer we are reluctant to add this feature. If more people would want this feature then this will move to a place higher on the list. Sorry.

You can scan multiple files like this:

    HitmanPro35.exe "file1.exe" "file2.exe" "file3.exe"

There's no need for such thing as it only scans the most common locations where malware strikes:thumb:

Wow man, let's hold the presses! You're uninstalling a cloud-based malware scanner because it's sending your information back to the cloud? How dare they! o_O
Next time you're feeling paranoid, run a Wireshark as you do a Google search (God forbid if you use a Google toolbar!) and see how much of your information is sent to the Man.

It's too late for him, the developers of hitman pro have all his private info already. Only way he can stay safe now is if he never uses the internet again.

Hi!!! First time. Hitman Pro has started finding invisible files behind so-called rootkits belonging to applications like Chrome 7.0.703 (one of the last developper versions, available as "malware" at filehippo.com). If it was not for the location (they are in my Document and settings folder in Appl. Data *but the real folder is not there, it's invisible) and the invisible tag, I would say it's another FP. It destroyed some files buit not all. What should I do?

ThanKs!!! You are right! I am using CTM. May be that's the reason of these invisible files but I don't really understand the mechanic of this, thanks!

firzen771:- ye u might as well post it there, but ur not gunna get a different answer really, its the way these snapshot programs function, those hidden files are files from ur snapshots being detected, and since Windows doesnt see them cuz there in a different snapshot, Hitman Pro detects them as hidden files.

this was a consistant issue i had wen i used to use snapshot programs.

The developer team behind Hitman will probably tell you the things you need to know about that. Wait a day or two and you will receive an answer to your question in this thread.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

If you are running tools like Rollback RX, Comodo Time Machine and alike, change the disk access mode to Compatible under Settings > Advanced > Disk Access Mode.

There are more posts in this thread about these tools and why they are incompatible with Hitman Pro's Direct Disk Access mode.

Edit: See this post for more info.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Am I missing something? I thought some versions back the compatability issues with these had been fixed up. I even commented on how impressed I was that it was fixed after running a scan which did not find any ghost entries as did previous versions. Granted, I did have one just after the last HMP update but it went away with the next scan

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The problem is solved when you change the Disk Access Mode to Compatibility Mode under Settings > Advanced > Disk Access Mode .

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I was doing that prior to when I thought someone mentioned here that Direct Disk Access would work with one of the latest updates. I guess I misunderstood. My problem with Compatibility mode is that it never detects anything new to upload. With Direct Disk, I can install something new and it detects it, with Compat mode it doesn't.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Ok, seems I took it that it was fixed but never got a confirmation on this

So now my question, is Compatibility Mode useless if it can't detect newly installed or downloaded items during a scan?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Compatibility Mode scans more along the lines of traditional AVs (big names here). In this mode, complex rootkits cannot be detected/removed.

There is nothing Hitman Pro can do as the rollback software is adding a 'smokescreen' on the file system making the rollback possible.

I hope this helps and is understandable.
