How to include System Restore in backup?

Hello:

While backing up the system partition, how do I include the restore points (from the System restore feature in Windows)?

Making a sector-by-sector backup will do this but takes up too much space when the disk is mostly empty. Is there any other way?

Are you sure the restore points are not being included in image backups? When I used Windows XP, I think they were included. Now I am on 7 and I am not using System Restore.

If they are not included, you can try to uncheck the “Skip OS auxiliary files” option when you create the backup, although this will also include the page and hibernation files, and will make the image bigger.

 

It seems such an essential issue. Are system restore points stored by default? If not, how does one include them? If so, how does one exclude them?

 

1) system restore only captures settings and drivers, nothing in \Windows, so
it's not sufficient by itself.

2) system restore data is in a hidden folder
c:\System Volume Information\_restore{37B71998-F5BD-4C5D-8DA9-553C4710A2EF}\RPnnn

If you want a good 'system backup', use the System State option in Backup
and save it wherever you please
