Have you read my sig? - imho, that pretty much covers everything! But if you're paranoid, be my guest and load up your system. ;)

Just because a person is paranoid doesn't mean something isn't out to get them.;)

But IMHO it isn't paranoid to use layered defense from different companies, it's a way to get the best from each category (firewall, HIPS or BB, AV, virtualization, etc.).

Besides, NIS has its own problems for some people. It didn't do as well as what I now have on my system.

My setup for quite a while now:

Firewall provided by XP built in one.

    Avira Premium
    Prevx with Safeonline
    Shadow Defender

And Acronis TI for when I really blow things up.

Anyone using Comodo Time Machine or something similar? I probably need something like that. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.

Also, I have a 64 bit Windows Ultimate with the same license key. If I put the 64 bit version on my laptop will it be blacklisted as soon as MS updates? Or does the license allow a person to use a key on more than one computer? I have seen many different answers to this. And I have a MS Office 2007 program on 3 home computers all with the same key that have updated without issue the past 2-3 years. But I got the MS Office key from the MS Home Use program, I guess it's similar to tech net?

    any ideas?

Maybe just install and see what happens?

    greetings folks,

i've been lurking for quite awhile here and enjoy reading about this stuff.

anyway, over the last year i've paid for quite a bit of security softwares but i settled on Geswall Pro and MBAM free.
i like Geswall because i don't have to get involved too much.

i just got tired of spending time tuning security softwares.
bloody HIPS drove me nuts: "fdgr43jd.dll is trying to access process in in grafh8e.exe module. Allow or Deny?"
    WTFo_O:rolleyes:

    Malware self protection device?
Will loop code in the GPU to cause a thermal shut down.
Check to see how many thermal sensors are detected, if there is a discrepancy from the number of sensors you know you have to that which the software reports you may have some problem.
Controlling the sensors you control the fan.
Does Dr. Web Live CD cause a similar issue? or Kav Rescue disk?
If it occurs with these then you will know if it is OS dependent or OS independent.
    Do you use Omega Drivers?

this laptop is very old and i mean it,it has a litle fan that with heavy bloated programs that requiere alot of memory usage get over heated some times especially if there is not enough room ventilation,if i have it on my lap is ok but i place it on the table then it gets over heated;) very easilly,i will consider to get those laptops coolers toplace under it to help with the over heated isue;)

i am currently running PE Guard and keyscrambler free;)

    KeyScrambler

KeyScrambler encrypts your keystrokes at the keyboard driver level and decrypts them at the destination application, giving keyloggers "scrambled," useless keys to record. :thumb: :thumb:

Got rid of Windows FW. I wanted application filtering and internet filtering so I added Look N Stop v2.07 back and turned WFW off.

cannot keep Windows defender on with Vipre installed. It automatically closes it on each start-up. Using Spybot S&D Immunization after a long time.
