That's REALLY cheap, especially for internet security package.
And i don't consider McAfee as bad really. Have been using it for a while with AOL promotion and it was pretty good (2009 version i think). Especially firewall is really easy to use and nicely organized. AV had pretty good detection as well.
3 user for such price is a killer no matter how you turn it.

I never liked (even I hated) all kind of promotions which give the product for free. I call this "Let's take our pants off" . You can't make business with no money and you can't improve the product with no money. Cheap but not that cheap.

This price means just 3 USD per computer for a whole year + free shipping . The shipping will cost more than these 3 dollars . What will the vendor earn , the distributors ... Fighting todays threats can't be done without money.

My theory about this is vendors give away their products just to get them on people's machines because once the software is installed the odds are good people will renew the subscription. Frys regularly gives away (after rebate) Norton, McAfee and other security products. Obviously if the vendor doesn't make enough money to properly maintain a security software product it will become useless quickly. Actually when I think about it McAfee may already be completely useless (ouch, low blow)....:D

You're not getting the point of promotions. It's not like you run them forever.
Retail stores do this for ages, most of them run weekly or monthly promos and they include one or several products with greatly reduced prices.
They are usually meant to lure users to their very store or webpage. Some will arrive too late, but since they are already there, they might still buy something at regular price. That's the whole point of promos.
