Thank you for the bug fix.

Is it possible that in the future Emsisoft will make the Emsisoft Emergency Kit not only update the malware signatures but also update the other files (i.e., programs files, etc.)? I know that it is not difficult to just download the zip file again and unzip it, but it would be nice to have all of the files updated with the signature updates.

    Thank in Advance.

The Emergency Kit updates program files too, not only the signatures.

Yesterday, I ran the update. I checked to see if the bug (BlitzBlank not opening) in Start.exe was still there. The bug was still there and the file version of Start.exe was 1.0.0.25. I downloaded Emsisoft Emergency Kit 1.0.0.10 and noticed the the file version of Start.exe was 1.0.0.26. The bug was gone with version 1.0.0.26.

I noticed this morning that you have a new version (1.0.0.11, 7/26/2010) of Emsisoft Emergency Kit for download.

If I had waited a little longer to check for updates would the Start.exe have been updated to version 1.0.0.26 when I ran "Update Now"?

    Thanks in Advance.

Sorry for my misunderstanding. The Emergency Kit scanner application is able to update itself, but the start.exe application doesn't. There will be rarely a need to update it. It's not subject to change at all.

Please obtain the latest zip package to get the new start.exe.

okay so the definitions can update, just the program won't update from Emergency Kit 1.0 for instance to 1.2, in that case you'd need to download the newer zip package?

The Emergency Kit Scanner application can update too (1.0 to 1.2 e.g).

There is just one more app called start.exe which is placed outside the Emergency Kit binary package. It's only to get a menu to start all included apps. That start.exe has no update feature.

    Everything else can update.

Start.exe is NOT the Emergency Kit Scanner, the Emergency kit scanner program files will update, but not the start.exe(start.exe is just a menu from which you can choose Emergency Kit scanner, Command line scanner, HiJackFree etc.)

Great news thank you both. For people that like to keep the Emsisoft Anti-Malware service disabled, and re-enable the service, update and run on demand scans, they might as well switch to just using the Emergency Kit then correct?

    Sorry, I'm a bit confused:

    - past the trial period, 5.0 doesn't run as A-Squared free once ran, on demand ? it seems no

    - Emergency Kit is the equivalent that old
    A-Squared free ?

Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5 with the Freeware mode can be used for on-demand scans like a-squared Free once ran, including the context menu scan (rightclick scan).
The Emergency Kit scanner replaces the a-squared Free scanner. It's a portable app, no installation needed but also no context menu scan available.

Thanks, so I thought. But my three days trial is expired and now when I try to launch the program on demand from Start< programs.... I see only the Emsisoft noticing that the trial is expired and I have to purchase a license. Should I subscrive the 30 days trial and wait for his expiring ?

There was a small bug regarding the licensing. You can uninstall this version, grab a new setup file and install again. During the wizard you can choose the Freeware mode directly.

Or, signup for the 30 day trial and switch to Freeware mode whenever you want.

Thanks, solved so. Signing up for 30 day trial I found the option to change immediately the version as freeware.

I just upgraded from a-squared but don't see much difference in the freeware version. Sometimes false positives were an issue in the old version, so time will tell.

Is there any way we can remove the license from a paid version and move back to freeware version?
Suppose if I want to use the product to another computer or if I want to keep another product in real time.

Please go to Settings -> Licenses, click the Refresh Licenses button and select the Freeware license.

Emsisoft has a good product at hand. But there is very obvious room for improvement -
    1. Clean up the GUI. The way configuration screens are presented now is not elegant at all. Also, get rid of that spinning horse.
    2. Lessen the impact on regular system tasks like opening closing explorer (not IE) windows. Even though on-access scan is disabled, there is a very observable difference in the overall responsiveness of the system before and after installing Antimalware.
What can I say, I have a license that I obtained during the giveaway and I am not using it. Very sad.

Emsisoft's software is probably the best detection you can get from an AV, but it was indeed too heavy on system resources.

The software is very good at detections. Further optimizations, better cleanup, and reduced load will be welcomed additions.

    Yeah ditto.
I used to love using EAM but now it seems that its heavier than other programs I'm using. Even OA++ isn't that bad. I'm hoping that with the new scanning engine they quicken things up.

I prefer Emergency Kit for that.
