Most of the products tested were fast, The bright side to this is no matter what AV product you choose it should not have a horrible impact on your computer. Even detection tests are getting closer to one and other, making the term "The best AV" more obsolete now then it was before. It's starting to become more of a choice of preference then anything.

Kill me but I really can't believe this result !
If there are other people who also think Panda is not that fast , please post here :thumb:

We are talking about Panda 2011

Yes, of course, AV-Comparatives is lying and their methodology is bad (like any other test where Norton does not score well) and Norton is the best and fastest AV in the word... I wonder why norton is rarely the first positions despite norton is the best one... /ironic

The Panda has a top speed of 32km/h (20mph)

    Do the math.

I am aware of all public Panda versions since 2003. I have tested v 2011 twice - one when it was BETA and once it was final - the same old animal like in the past year and the previous year (improvements are noticable but still slow). Anyway , that is my opinion . Your opinion is different . I am not saying AVC are lying - I know what is happening . End of discussion with you. Thank you

Sorry but you are always telling how good is norton and how bad are their competitors...
But of course the tests made by AVC to measure the performance of an AV are irrelevant if we take into account your personal experience with the performance of Panda 2011

Which is your methodology to know that Panda is slowest than other AV, pe Norton? you use both a couple of days with different conditions and then you feel than Norton is faster because Norton has a cool interface and a % that is telling you the files that are not scanned?

The AV-Comparatives report states that Norton Internet Security 2011 was tested. Is this accurate? My recollection is that AV-Comparatives typically does not test unreleased versions of products.

That seems to be a very reasonable summary of the results. Most anti-virus suites exhibited “very fast” performance on most tests.

Using the WorldBench test, the top half of the performers ranged from a low score of 100 (Avast) to a high of 104 (Panda). It’s hard to get excited about such minor differences which, I suspect, would be entirely transparent to many users.

If memory serves me well last year they tested Avast 5 beta as asked by the vendor ? Perhaps they'll test any version the vendors wants/decides is best

no, if betas are tested they would be marked as such, but to be included it must be already RTM. products are usually already final weeks before you get them in stores, as it takes about a month to print the CDs etc. they may improve detection etc. meanwhile (which is why you get updates etc. for your product even if you buy it asap the first day) but RTMs are out long before.

Actually the fastest is without AV. :D :D I'm going to start running it right away! I figure that way in about five years I'll make up the time it took me to read this stupid test.

    Thank you for confirmation.

Yes , I know that . That is pretty normal . A company must make a RTM , then make marketing materials , prepare site , educate staff , create CDs/boxes , etc and then release the product - that is all normal . Just like the case with Norton 2011 - perhaps you got a RTM build which is not currently available to the masses but that is OK as you wanted final.

    Thanks for confirmation.

usually users ask "why have you tested an old 2011 product last month, if yesterday version 2012 was released..." :p

i wasnt over impressed with kis but it wasn't far away from bit defender lol. didnt think it was that bad.
Anyways, i got 3 pc's and each one runs different av's at different speeds. So pretty pointless test. try the av on your system.

True, of course; but remember that the WorldBench score is computed as a harmonic mean, which generally trends toward the smaller values in the set. Thus, the perceived overhead engendered by an anti-virus suite might not be noteworthy.

Take a close look at the graphic on page 15 of the test report -- and especially note the results for Autodesk rendering, Firebox, MS Office, MS Windows Media Encoder, Roxio and WinZip. In many cases, the performance comparison to "without AV" is minimal.

The Panda results here have my mind boggled. I have tried both 2010 and 2011 and found it extremely heavy on the CPU. The amount of processes it creates and runs always causes the CPU of most of my machines to lock up while scanning or running applications that use a lot of memory.

I may have missed it but was the Windows 7 test based on the 32 bit or 64 bit version

@Oldjim: Tests were performed on Windows XP SP3 (x86) and Windows 7 Professional (x86).

In which case the difference in speed results is quite remarkable
