Already pointed it out and nobody seems to care despite whining about the Ask Toolbar being packaged with Immunet Protect.

You'd be hard pressed to find a DNS provider that DOESN'T use a 3rd party search provider. It's pretty simple, 1. It only shows when typing an invalid domain, so don't use it to search or 2. use a service like DynDNS that allows you to turn off invalid domain redirection and you won't see the search page.

I have not seen ClearCloud have any 3rd party search engine yet, but I do not go to invalid sites though. I think they are going to get a can't find why you are looking for page soon but no idea who it will be provided by.

It's not that simple, believe me. i.wp.pl is blocked because Norton recognize Spik communicator (hosted on i.wp.pl) as a malware. m.gazeta.pl was blocked because some "bad code" in CSS file. One of big site here related to DVD burners was blocked because someone attached a password recovery software to post 2 years ago. I could of course ask whether limiting my freedom of using web in the name of security is something good or not, but that's not the case here. The way NortonDNS is currently working is not satisfactory for me, so i moved to other DNS provider. Others, who browse web in different manner may find this service well suited for them :) I just wanted to point couple of issues i had with them - that's all.

Barthez, and all the PL net surfers are grateful for your input. You've whetted my appetite for testing ClearCloud DNS.

yeah i am temporarily back to ClearCloud DNS myself. Norton DNS suddenly started to block my favorite search engine -http://www.yauba.com/-.

I tried to get a confirmation with WOT scorecard multi-language and Google Safe browsing, but both do not give me the answer i am looking for.

    http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=www.yauba.com

    http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/Google safe browsing

Since i do not know whether the search engine is currently dangerous or if Norton DNS is wrong, i temporarily switched back to ClearCloud DNS and i temporarily use Google again as search engine.

If some one here has means of confirming whether -http://www.yauba.com/- is currently dangerous indeed or not, then i would really appreciate that.

Morro, URLVoid.com lists yauba.com as suspicious. Just FYI.

I think OpenDNS is very good at blocking spyware. You only need to see your network's statistics to realize it.

Well it would seem that Norton DNS was correct then, darn...Yauba is normally a great search engine IME. So i guess i will switch back to Norton DNS then.

    Thanks JRViejo :thumb:

Yeah it normally is a great replacement for Google, i started using it at the beginning of this year. Shame that it appears to be dangerous at the moment. :( (Oh well.)

Norton also blocked Sourceforge at some point, all of Sourceforge :)

That search site does not necessarily become questionable because it is flagged by Norton. Site Admins might be victims to whatever, mistake by 1 employee perhaps. May be they don't even know yet, may be they alredy fixed the error. All is fine or ? Same as if you have own website and host a file, combofix, some program from Nirsoft, then may be Mcafee or other service with bots racing around looking for stuff will give site a red verdict. Does not make you a bad guy. Some service let site admins ask for a re-check but damage can be done fast. May be justified, may be not.

The best replacement for Google is Scroogle: https://ssl.scroogle.org/

Incorrect, look at the results page, they indicate a threat because someone has viewed a bad page with their proxy server. http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=yauba.com

It is a false detection by Norton & Browser Defender (albeit the same thing)

I tried Norton DNS and found it to be too aggressive. It was blocking one of the sites I get a HOSTS file from among other things. Just proved to be too much of a hassle.

I have been reading these comments about the NortonDNS and wondering ....right now I use NETGEAR Live Parental Controls (openDNS) thru my router and wondering if the Norton will allow different filter settings for the kids and the adults computers all using the same router or will all the computers have the same filters?

Right now I have a program on mine and the wife's computers that allows us to bypass the filters or have separate filters then the kids.... Thanks

Most likely correct, but unfortunately the result is the same...the search engine is still blocked. :( I will continue to check the site though, i really would like to continue using Yauba again.

No. I also use it. HOSTS has nothing to do with DNS. You've always been using DNS.

I have come to know that advertising domains are not blocked by DNS services. Why is it so?
