I viewed the video again & could not see that Languy made that error.

IF he did make that error, would someone please post a screenshot of it being done?

And his statement still stands -- PEG has THE most uninformative alerts Languy has ever seen. That goes for me, too.

Ok, what information do you believe that I should include in the alert window? o_O

Thank you for the screenie. I am convinced.

Such being the case, it seems to me that the option "Let PE Guard decide" might better be removed altogether. While Languy is certainly not a security expert, he probably is fairly representative of "everyday users" (like me).

By the way, Languy seems like a decent chap. Perhaps someone here knows him well enough to ask him (in a friendly, non-insulting way) to re-do his tests of PEG WITHOUT checking this option.

@opaida- Your guidelines state that this option is great in lessening popups, but at the cost of increasing risk. It sounds to me like an average user might end up with fewer popups but at the cost of having an infected computer.

You might want to consider deleting this option altogether.

As to your request for suggestions about more explanatory alerts, I recommend you try running some competing HIPS that do a fairly good job of giving reasonably clear alerts. Online Armor's alerts are pretty clear. So are Private Firewall's (both OA & PFW have built-in HIPS).

@bellgamin: Ok I'll delete it or at least I'll warn the user when set that option.

Also, thank you for your suggestions. I am going to try those HIPS.

    Thank you jmonge.

I received email from Chris@MRG saying that they will support/test PE Guard :).

Just installed PE Guard with default settings and this option is enabled by default, therefore Languy did not set it.

Sounds like you state that your program is quite useless with default settings.

    Cheers

    1. Languy was reviewing the program, and not using it.
    2. I am going to delete this option.

Opaida, does the 64 bit protection implemented with next v2.2 will be as effective than with the 32 bit version?

  18. Pedersen

    Pedersen Registered Member

64-bit will be supported in 2.2 build. and of course the product will keep its value and for both 32-64-bit. ;)

Its value being what? Joking aside (I own a license), how can you be that affirmative about this, do you also work with Opaida on his next build? Or are you testing it?

so what is the difference in security with running the portable version vs. the install version?

also, is this still freeware or is there freeware / payware versions?

also anyone know of any programs that conflict with pe guard?

he meant that there is no reduction in the level of security in 64 bit.
And he knows that because he mailed me before.

    - There is no difference.
    - Ver 1.2 is free: http://opaida.110mb.com
    Ver 2.x is paid: http://www.ohtic.com
    - Till now, I didn't receive any complaint that PE Guard is conflicting with another program.

Ok, thanks for answering here. It will be fun to experiment with 2.2!
Promising tool you have there, btw. And I do like your way of gradually building PE Guard in a nicely balanced mix of simplicity + efficiency. Please, keep it up!
