Prevx was a little too rough on my system :( well over 60,000,000,000 I/O read bytes, constant CPU usage. Oh well, still have V4 to look forward to :)

Argh, I expected it to be Kaspersky again, but I see it is ESET :D

The disk IO tends to be higher due to it running scans in the background. I have not noticed high CPU. I actually think Prevx is the lightest, or one of the lightest AV programs out right now.

jmonge, how about the latest WinPatrol Plus does it still high consumes CPU and spikes CPU usage (eg when you surfing via IE browser)?

    Thanks

Uninstalled Prevx for the time being since it was conflicting with IE8 smart screen filter and Opera again!!
On the other hand EAM and OA are running as smooth as silk! :-*

Found OA++ pretty buggy and sluggish. Higher latency with it as well.

Back to Comodo 5 latest beta (firewall only) with PrevxSO.

    No more changes :p

I own a license of Avira but after ver 10 came out I gave up. How you liking their new version and any development of its proactive or behavior based detections?

well my Longhorn friend. Avira is very good. But Proactiv needs work, and will get it. Personally I dont like the idea of solid contenders like Avira and Avast going to BB and Sandboxs to fill a gap. I still am old fashion and think that emulators and heuristics still actually play an important role in fighting malware.

Not that BB blockers dont have there place, because Prevx rules in this area. But for a AV keep it simple and keep it good.

    Hi,
I agree with you here my friend but dont you think traditional av's should have atleast some component to help prevent zero day threats and atleast give the user some more tools to block the crap ..just a thought:doubt:

Added Norton DNS. I tried the actual software install. I then said "self why do I have to install another tray icon when I can just put in the DNS myself". So thats what I did. Works well. Haven't really tested it yet.

I totally agree and that is why there other vendors who make those products. When a vendor, say a AV vendor branches out into all those areas, the majority of the time, it pulls needed resources away from what got them there to begin with. Yes, folks like Norton and Kaspersky and a few others, have the resources to do this, but most of these smaller ones and dont. That is what Avira is struggling with. Has it hurt them?

Let others perfect those fields and let AV vendors make their products as strong as possible.

Just installed Immunet Protect (Free) to my setup. I'm also running Prevx SafeOnline (Facebook Edition), which I reinstalled. Will these two conflict? Is there a point in running both? Thanks in advance.

After seeing your setup dont think you need any of'em but hey it will not hurt if your system can handle it

Been testing Norton Antivirus 2010 for some time now. This is one gem of an AV. Reasons I am liking it so much -
    1. Absolutely no impact on system performance.
    2. The best implementation of community based protection.
    3. The best implementation of cloud based protection.
    4. Updated constantly via the Pulse update mechanism.
    5. Excellent reports.

Hands down, the best non-free AV I have ever used. And I have used a lot of them.
Its actually a feat in Software Engineering - how Norton managed to make so many diverse technologies work in tandem without affecting system performance.
