Sadly, I had to remove this piece of wonder due to performance issues. Very good protection but a tad bit heavy on system resources (disk I/O).

Doh! Microsoft's KB2286198 security update hit me badly. I got BSOD's after applying that patch. Back to avast! :ouch:

This is what exactly happened when KIS 2011 detected some viruses
It took about 16 minutes to quarantine them not absolutely all of them even though it said so

yep, I own KIS 2011 to, and ended up buying Avast and have not regretted it for one moment.

I had random (but frequent) BSOD's with KIS2011 before Microsoft's KB2286198, but after patch (MS) I could not reboot.

I am starting to believe that I/O thingy. Kaspersky heats up my laptop. I am having troubles with YouTube videos now with avast! They are jerky ie. they are not streaming properly.

Considering my past problemss with KIS2010, and what I am seeing on the forums I do not think that KIS2011 is for me. :thumbd:

It is still quite buggy. Immediately noticable for me was the GUI turning white as in the picture above (during the first update even), very slow populating of the reports, slow application control, and a few more irritating things in the first 10 minutes of use. KIS 2010 is much more stable.

As for I/O, start Autoruns (sysinternals) and select autoscroll. The avp.exe activity is insane.

Yeah, KIS 2011 was a excellent protection, but slow as hell. It would often be crippled when I extracted 500+ malware from a .rar file to test it. Few other AVs are crippled like that.

They really need to improve the performance of the program.

I read reports saying it was super quick, so I tried it, found I still had 500 days available from when I gave up on 2010 lol. out of anything I have tested recently it's quite slow at browsing opening browsers etc. It works quite well but if you look deep it's full of bugs and 'stopped responding' sometimes when i threw some malware at it. It also missed a few. 2009, '10 and '11 are all slow compared to their main competitors (on my pc's anyway)
a well thought out program, released too early maybe.

How does it run if you disable idle scan and regular rootkit scan?

KIS is heavy on I/O but otherwise I don't notice any slowdowns with it. For example Firefox and most other programs launch just as fast as without any AV, with the exception of OpenOffice.org which launches very slowly. Version 2010 used to cause long delays with everything on my machines until I disabled File Anti-Virus (too much I/O), but 2011 runs much faster.

I've been unable to reproduce the white GUI bug, although it seems to be quite common.

Maybe I'm one of the few, but I find KIS lighter than all free AV + free firewall setups I've tried, and it also did well in the raymond.cc performance test earlier this summer. I don't deny others having performance problems with it though.

It could be improved a lot, especially in some cases (like the one below):
Yea, KIS' disinfection method is very slow. For me it usually takes about a minute to delete one file.
Usually when KL releases a build their beta-testing forums still have dozens of bugs listed which should be fixed. For example in CF1 beta both the white GUI bug and the Windows 7 Photo Viewer freeze bugs were reported but they were not fixed before release. As a beta tester it's quite annoying.

For me 2011 version is the best. I had problems with version 2010, slowdowns, youtube video lag etc. but no problems with KIS 2011 v.11.0.1.400(a)

I hope it stays this way on my computer because Kaspersky has a very good protection.

I've reading the russian forums and I can tell you this:
The bug with the GUI corruption will be fixed in the upcoming patch 'b'.
Also the Photo Viewer/Win 7 and the mislabeling of some app vendors in Program Control (some appear under 'Igor Pavlov' - quite amusing to see he works for Intel and ATI at the same time :argh: ).

ETA is about a month, there isn't a set date.

This is the norm with the latest versions of Kaspersky, you should wait until there's a stability release (typically CF2) if you want a flawless experience. Or you can install the latest and deal with some minor (or in this case some major bugs :( ).
As a developer and a customer I don't like this methodology but there's a saying: "The best feature in software development is actually shipping the product".

I/O is considerably reduced when you disable Idle Scan and Regular Rootkit scan. In my own testing it's quite similar to any other suite that implements web filtering. Some don't and that makes a considerable difference in I/O.
Also take in mind that some browsers like Chrome/Chromium generate a huge amount of I/O and KIS implements proxy filtering that traffic.
However if it's noticeable it should be improved. I believe 2011 has done some optimizations compared to 2010 as it feels much lighter in comparison.
2010 was a pain to use for me, 2011 seems as light and fast as most suites I've used (or even faster).

USA still the best. But barely.
Here KIS 2011 replaced KIS 2010 & I am pleased. This time though I'm leaving KIS scan settings on default.

KIS 2011 and KAV 2011 review from PC MAG. KIS 2011 review is very good. The problems they are describing are very easy to handle. Need help?

I finally migrated from KIS 2009 to KIS 2011 and I can say that I am impressed. I would only like to ask you one thing. If I enable the highlighted option, won't Kaspersky scan USBs AT ALL? Or will it scan only the autorun.inf, which is what I want?
    Thank you in advance.

And one more thing, does the idle scan also check for vulnerabilities? Or do I have to run the vulnerability scan manually?

Real-time protection will still scan files on USBs as they're opened/executed. That section only applies to device detection scan.
    No.
