It doesn't get that specific, from EULA:
There is also a bit more info on KSN:

I always opted out of these things, but with the latest norton and kaspersky it effects protection.
Another thing that puzzles me is they state " personally identifiable information is collected" even though your client is installed on your machine?
then they state "Kaspersky Lab may disclose any of the information collected if asked to do so by a law enforcement official "
for these reasons i chose not to bother. I know it's paranoid i just don't fancy the idea, it's a personal thing. :)

The list of incompatible apps is just a list of apps which may be incompatible with KAV, but many firewalls still work with KAV. I've tried some of them with KAV 2009/2010 and they worked well after adding the firewall to KAV's exclusions and KAV (avp.exe) to the firewall's exclusions.

That's what the guys at the KL forum said, which was a relief to hear because I was trying to run KAV2011 alongside my favorite firewall. Unfortunately I didn't fare very well and am now trying KAV2011 with LnS.

I guess I just don't see the point of publishing a list of programs that may be incompatible. It seems like anything and everything could be incompatible given the wrong set of conditions. :p If they haven't tested these combinations, then don't publish them on the list. If they have tested them, then why not publish what the specific incompatibility is and what to do to make them work together?

Patch A for 11.0.1.400 is now in beta testing, so that'll be released before CF2.

CF2 beta testing hasn't even started yet (and likely isn't starting for a while). KL is currently patching CF1.

Are these patched applied automatically via updater?
Also, can I buy a KIS 2010 license and use it on KIS 2011?

Yes. Upgrades to the next year's version within the time period of your subscription have always been free in the past.

Patch A for CF1 has been out for a few days, if you still use the release version, there is a Patch B.

Yes, and KIS will normally ask for a reboot if a patch is installed. To check if you have it installed you can see your version in the support or about window.

Patches are applied automatically, but new program builds are not.

For example, if you're running KIS 11.0.0.232 (the original KIS 2011 release version), KIS won't update automatically to 11.0.1.400 (KIS 2011 Critical Fix 1).
However, KL just released Patch A for Critical Fix 1 and Patch B for the original release, and KIS will download these patches automatically.

I was thinking about hopping on the $14.99 deal for AV 2010, but you guys are scaring me. When I was initially making my AV selection, I demoed a few of them, including Kaspersky, and was not initially impressed by it. I thought it was a bit heavy on my machine, and the full scan seemed to take forever. But for $15, I can tolerate a lot more, excluding problems with updates.

I have more fiddle room, but the other PCs that I would install this is on would be used by non-technical people, and that scares me.

Whats to be scared about? Just install Kaspersky and let it run. It already selects user actions automatically for non-technical people. You may just want to reduce the number of notifications and that all.

At the end of the day though, you have used it, and you know how usable it is. Install it if you want to, else, don't.

I'm not saying that it's complicated, I'm worried about the update problems it has been having, and stability issues.

Full scans tend to take long, but otherwise I have never had any stability/updater issues with KIS/KAV during the last 3 years. Some people seem to have them though.

Does anyone know what the UDP port 2001 connections are used for? Is this the KLN connections? I disabled the option to use that, but I am still seeing these connections.

Kaspersky doesn't normally use that. Use a program like TCPview or Wireshark to see.

It's definitely the avp.exe process. Some of the connections resolve to kaspersky addresses, but not all. I'll have to fire up Wireshark and see what's in the packets. I'm allowing the connections to known Kaspersky servers, but the other with ranges in China, Singapore, etc. I'm blocking.

You can try terminating all applications and enabling them one at a time to see which is contacting the servers. As Kaspersky acts like a proxy, certain programs may show Kaspersky making the connection, although another application is actually doing so and traffic is only tunnelling through Kaspersky.

I'm running KAV, so there is no proxy. Also, KAV is the last program I installed on my box and the connection attempts didn't exist prior. There is no doubt that it is avp.exe triggering these on its own. I'm not at the computer now, so I can't provide the IP ranges. I do know a few of them resolved to kaspersky hostnames and they are the ones I set up rules to allow.

I find these connection attempts suspicious, but as Kaspersky is a trusted AV there must be some legitimate reason for them. I also noticed this with KAV2010 during the short time that I ran it. The UDP port was different and I can't remember exactly what it was right now, but will find out and post back.

There is a proxy even with KAV.

When I was running Comodo FW with KAV some months ago, Comodo showed that all established connections were avp.exe's, since KAV is a proxy.

I don't deny that the connections couldn't be KAV's though - although I've never seen KIS/KAV using UDP port 2001, even with KSN enabled.

I should have clarified that I don't use the web or mail scanner. Just the file antivirus, proactive, and system watcher.
