antivirus that uses both signatures and cloud to find malware

f-secure uses both cloud and signatures.

 

ESET's NOD32 and Eset Smart Security uses both Signatures and Cloud via ThreatSense.Net

 

About rising cloud, I have to say it was quite interesting to me... Once I tried it with a old malware (~2006) which wasn't detected by it. I executed it and rising blocked some action of it through its BB, after 3 hours it started detecting the malware and within 12 hour it detected the associated executables created by that malware...

wow antivirus used in china offer cloud based scanning but not yet from avira.

maybe that did not like the idea from the start

 

I think the Rising cloud is nice, the Kingsoft cloud I have not seen in action much. I know it can detect new versions of Zbot from the cloud though.

 

The latest Sophos version 9.5 use cloud to!

 

let me ask something. Would cloud scanning just be scanning with the signatures located not on the PC. I am confused.

 

At the risk of stating the obvious, “clouds” and “signatures” are not interchangeable commodities among anti-malware products. While multiple products may have both components, it doesn’t mean that the quality of these facilities is uniform.

In particular, the issue, in my opinion, is not whether Product X has or doesn’t have a “cloud” -- but, what’s in that cloud and how it is leveraged to enhance the protection provided to the user. I think that is the better question to ask and to contemplate.

 

+1... "cloud" = buzzword for the model of the set-up/infrastructure.
It says nothing about the abilities/strength of the product, or the marginal benefits the "cloud" has for the product.

Simple example - Avira has no "cloud" (judging by this thread), BUT it can detect far more malware than many of the other AVs listed in this thread which do have aspects in the "cloud".

As I said above, just because Avira may not use the "cloud", doesn't mean its inferior or there are any issues or Avira is slow off the boat.

 

Some companies likes to keep with the current "trends" others take their time until this tech is mature or more advanced

FYI, Almost every major vendor in China use cloud technology.

 

Specially 360AV and Kingsoft ... I am not aware of Rising & Jiangmin whether they use cloud tech. or not ..

Prevx also has behavioural analysis, which is not done in the cloud, and also works when there's no internet connection

So after all, it seems that Avira has implemented some cloud technology into version 10 and is on the right track....

Edit: Though it has nothing to do with the core protection of the product since it is just a right-click and send file for analysis option. But still something I guess
