Had something odd happen the other day on Facebook....i just have a dummy FB account so that i can get a few decent coupons every once in a while by "liking" a company, such as DiGiorno pizza, Kraft, etc.....a couple of a days ago they show me a bunch little square boxes of potential people on Facebook that i might know, so i can add them as friends i guess and they are all blank except for an obscure person that i had just searched for on google w/in the last 24 to 48 hours....so i'm wondering how Facebook got this info - searching my clipboard or recent search terms? How can they do this? its creepy....

Hi, welcome to the "wonderful" world of data mining and tracking etc. Creepy indeed :(

Think, scripting/iframes/webbugs/referrer/cookies etc etc. Block those and you're well on your way to trackerless surfing ;)

And don't forget your IP. If it's not dynamic and only static, sites can and do cross reference it with ANY www that you visit. So they know where you've been, and how often, and what day/time, and how long you stayed there. Oh and some www's share/sell this info with other www's

Dynamic is best, and/or use a proxy :thumb:

thanks Clone Ranger for good info....

i just have mobile broadband so think my IP changes all the time...used to have a separate firefox "security" surfing profile with ABP, NoScript, ghostery, hostsman, and all that kind of stuff but got weary of it...looks like it may be time to go back to it though....

Removed Off Topic Posts. Let's focus on the subject at hand and not get personal toward each other. Thanks!
