private browsing helps as does not allowing third party cookies; disallowing scripting for all sites except trusted. delete browser cache periodically

Most people, as the article goes to prove, just don't have a clue about such tracking, so this "might" go some way in enlightening them But how long before they forget, or are too lazy to find out how to prevent it, and/or clean up after, or can't fathom out how to ?

The article should be a sticky on there, and widely linked to worldwide

I agree. I think Returnil is a Godsend. The single most important piece of software on my laptop. No question.

 

Caspian, speaking of Returnil, did you realize R-Wipe & Clean has a feature that erases all .dat files on reboot? I paid no attention to RW&C until this feature. My mistake. I no longer use the Returnil wipe function and use the RW&C function as it's a stronger wiping algorithm. Using HeX0R, I have checked: it leaves no trace of it at all.
