My laptop was working correctly until I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Eset Smart Security 4.2.58.

Now when my computer tries to go to sleep or hibernate it hangs and the hard disk light continues to flash, but I have to reset the laptop eventually to get out of the hanging state.

I have an Acer travelmate laptop with Windows 7 64bit (Home Premium)
I have dropbox installed, read somehwere it might be an issue between eset and dropbox. I also tried with the older version and with 0.8.90

    What I did was:
I uninstalled Eset Smart Security and then ran the eset uninstaller tool and the ndis repairer. After that I installed eset smart security 4.2.58 again.
Everything works fine except that when I let my computer go to sleep or hibernate, the hard disk icon continues to flash and the computer does not enter sleep state, it can also not come out of the state and hangs.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling eset and dropbox, I have tried disabling network sync on dropbox, I have tried disabling eset firewall, nothing works.
If I uninstall either eset or dropbox, then the computer enters sleep state correctly and there is no problem.

Thanks, I did contact cusomer support but they referred me to eset UK.
The problems started when I uninstalled and reinstalled eset. I have tried again last night, I unistalled eset completely and ran the uninstaller and ndis tool. I also uninstalled dropbox that was on my computer. After this my computer was entering sleep state correctly. After this, I installed only dropbox and not eset. Once again my computer was hanging when entering sleep state. This is strange because I have been using dropbox for months with everything working. The problems started the moment I uninstalled and reinstalled eset smart security last week.

Update for Case #546279 - "Other products or services issue - Other Issue"

I Installed Microsoft Office 2010 last night, I did the upgrade from 2007, and now the computer can enter sleep state again without hanging. Strange, but it seems to have fixed something.

Strange, but how did you think there is a eset or dropbox problem... I've read about your attempts and i can't getting why did you kept install and uninstall both... Have you test it after you uninstall it. Maybe you have learned that is not an eset problem

Because the problem started immediately after I uninstalled and reinstalled eset smart security. So it can only be eset that caused the problem.
I uninstalled eset because I wanted to see if eset added extra network adapters in my device list.
I have also read in other forums of people with similar problems between eset and dropbox.
I have also confirmed that it was eset causing the problem because if I rebooted and then disabled the eset firewall everything worked fine, the computer entered sleep state correctly,

I've had this same problem with sleep on two different computers (one desktop and one laptop) when using Eset Smart Security suite.

Both computers already have Office 2010 and Dropbox and are both fresh installs (i.e., no other security software was or ever has been installed) but when I install ESET Smart Security, either the newest version or either of the two previous versions (this is referring to version 4 only), the computers will not sleep properly and the only way to get them working again is to do a hard reset.

    Hallo InfinityAz,

you are right. It first occurs with new version ESS 4.2. It was in March when I had this problem first time.

    But,..

Hey, it is now August. I think in the meantime there was enough time to solve this bug. Or let us wait to version 5/6/7/8 ... and hope the bug will be fixed some day.

So, I can repeat my wish again: ESET please fix this bug soon.
