What´s the best (simplest, efecctive, low resouse usage) way to stop USB based infections (that automaticaly infect the computer in the moment you plug), without using a anti-virus resident shield?
I´m not sure if sandboxie (paid) can do that. Maybe an anti-exeo_O
    thanks

(Maybe not the right place to post, i´ll open new tread)

I think I may change my security setup to something like this

    Panda Cloud PRO
    Winpatrol Plus
    DefenseWall HIPS
    MBAM PRO (On-demand)

I also may put Rising PC doctor on a few machines for a bit, it's been a long time since I last used it and I am wondering how good it's IE URL protection is (for my parents machine).

    Old setup
    Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 v11.0.1.400
Pirelli router(medium level firewall inbound protection)

My laptop is old, so I changed my setup, because it was running too slow.

    New Setup

    Avira Antivir Premium 10.0.0.603
    Windows XP SP3 Firewall
Pirelli router(medium level firewall inbound protection)

    Firefox + Adblock+ BetterPrivacy

Anybody can suggest me more light and same level or higher level protection?

Because I like multiplayer games, and i need good solution for best gaming performance and computer security.

If I have a quad core machine, I think every application can run great :'(

Really looking for some sound advice on my security setup. I guess there's a bit of overkill on some of my anti malware/spyware apps etc. For example, does having the paid version of Hitman Pro negate the requirement for PrevX (although PrevX does offer SafeOnline)? I've listed all the security measures in place in my signature.

The saying that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing definitely applies to me! I would like to have a coherent security setup rather than a rag bag of various apps. For example, yesterday I edited the registry to improve windows 7 security closely following the instructions I read (I think) at MS TechNet, Problem is I cannot even remember what the name of the security strengthening alteration was! Oh dear....

    Any advice warmly received :)

    Hi.
Please specify which apps are resident and which are on-demand.

I don't think I have any resident apps save eset. All the rest are on demand which becomes tedious in the extreme! And SEHOP was what I installled the other day. Not entirely sure what it does but it sounded like a positive step in reinforcing the armoury ;)

So TF, Prevx, MBAM and SAS are all on-demand?
TF is worthless as an OD scanner, aside from serving as a bit of an ARK.
You definitely don't need Prevx if you're not running it real-time as HMP has you covered there (like you said).

7 x86 or 7 x64 and which flavor (Home Premium, etc)?

MBAM is the Pro version so is real-time I guess as it occasionally pops up a warning about a blocked ip address but is pretty much on-demand the rest of the time. PrevX is paid so it does offer real-time protection.

SAS is also Pro with real-time protection enabled. Although with respect to SAS this real-time protection has never alerted me to any nasties and it is only when I run an on-demand SAS scan then it will pick up the odd tracking cookie. Yes, I'd heard conflicting reports about ThreatFire. You think I should bin it? What is an ARK?

I've looked into SRP but it looks too complicated and time-consuming but I could be wrong.

    I'm running x86 Vista Ultimate.

Thanks for the advice - it all helps me get a bit more understanding of what is a very complex area!

I think my biggest source of confusion is LUA. I hardly ever log in to my Admin account and so if I need to run HMP under my LUA I have to enter the admin pw; same goes for MBAM and PrevX has started throwing irritating error messages about my license but that's another issue which should be resolved soon.

I have a very bad habit of implementing 'stuff' without really reading in detail about the implications/pros and cons of these actions. Basically, I am lazy!

Okay, you're actually running 4 resident scanners atm then.
    I'd definitely ditch TF.
Would also disable the real-time protection of SAS, MBAM as well tbh.
That'd still leave you with both ESET and Prevx as real-time scanners (still one more than I'm personally comfortable with, but not overlapping or anything).

    ARK is anti-rootkit.

My advice is to disable some of the resident scanners and add Sandboxie.
That said, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

    Hey, anytime.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, happy to help if I can.

Same as always and below in my signature in not any particular order. I will say Trust-No-Exe old as it might be is still a formidable enough security componant as is EQS as a Super-HIPS Security Software.
