F-Prot Antivirus 6.0.9.4

Lemme clarify you some points.


1. Each of my samples are unique and ITW.
2. I rename every sample into its SHA256.
3. After renaming, i convert every executable files into non-exe format.
4. I never scan zipped malwares. So i guess, it won't be any problem.

BTW if you have certain doubts, then please have a remote session with me, but before that do arrange a 7 Days license key to test the Pro version, as my license key is over now..and it seems that they are not interested to gimme any more...

 

Avinash I guess we had a discussions regarding this topic but still I didn't understand how can you say that your sample is unique (Sorry for irritating you ) But I have some questions:

1) Have you reverse engineered it and then reconstructed the code?

2) And how can you change the hashes of your sample program?

No i have not reverse engineered it.

By using a tool, which changes every sample into its SHA256, a unique SHA256 means a unique sample, whether it is re-encrypted, re-coded or something else..

Asking questions doesn't mean that you are dumb...

This is getting ridiculous. I visited this thread to read about F-prot, which is the topic of the thread. Instead I am confronted with a whole bunch of off-topic posts. This is very rude and unfair to those who visit a thread based on what its topic says it is supposed to cover.

Anywayz back on topic I downloaded and installed on my actual Win7 system running somewhat heavy and the tray icon didn't show up at first go but now things are normal I guess

 

You have to re-start the system after installing it...And then you can update it..BTW how much time it took to update?

 

Actually I really enjoy reading your tests and related comments. I just wish you would start a thread and go more deeply into them.

I restarted the system after that only my tray icon didn't show up so I rebooted again and after that everything seemed normal. And my update did take considerable time around 8-10 Min

 

Okay...I haven't faced any kind of problem while my testing..Update took 2 or 3 minutes ...

 

Hmmm may be facing some problem in the internet connection its raining here in mumbai

I am a registered user of F-Prot and I've been using F-Prot from 1991 or so. I think now, but there are better options in the market, F-Prot is a good antivirus and cheaply with 5 licenses.

how about detection on internet script/exploit ? can f-prot protect from them without having web protection module ?

wow, i remember using f-prot back-in-the-day. i'll check it out.

*edit* full system scan, it's averaging approximately 60MB of memory among 3 processes (tray, ui, service) and 30-40% CPU.

 

But seriously -- detection rates are a valid selection criterion for antivirus programs. F-prot's recent rates are low. Sentimentality aside, there are better AV choices than F-prot.

 

I used f=prot a couple of years back and it kept my PCs clean. I think, for smart users that go with the layered approach, it's still good enough.

But, as Bel said, there are better lots of options out there, some a lot better.

 

And better Free options...
