Hello All. I am implementing Nod32 onto 1,000 or so computers of varying ability (i.e. some 2.4 Ghz 512mb Machines!). I'm wondering if there is some way that I can reduce the amount of resources that Nod32 uses by disabling some features... Like the email integration feature.

I've been looking through the Eset Configuration Editor and cannot find how to disable Email Integration. I can disable it on the client, but I would rather do it either in the install or in a Policy.

Also, are there any other technologies that can be disabled to lighten the load. I undertand that it will cripple the product a little, but the cost/benifit might be worth it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can find the e-mail integration under:
ESET Smart Security, ESET NOD32 Antivirus --> Email client --> Setup

About reducing resources, NOD32 already is pretty light and should be able to run just fine on those machines, I have it running on plenty of computers compared to those described and even slower ones.

What you can do what does help improving start up and updates is to edit the startup scans (both at startup and after update) is to change the priority to 'when idle'.

I have used/tested many antivirus solutions, and in my optionion NOD32 was the lightest from all.

    Thanks for the replies.

Regarding the Email question: Sorry, I asked the wrong question. I can turn of integration, but when I look on the client the "Email Client Protection" is still enabled. I assume that turning this off would reduce the resource load, but it may not.

Good idea on the "When Idle" option. However, I could not find where to set that setting. Are you talking about scheduled scans? If so, I don't have any of those setup.

    Thanks

If you go to scheduler (ESET Smart Security, ESET NOD32 Antivirus --> ESET Kernel --> Setup --> Scheduler/Planner) and choose edit you can edit all your scheduled tasks including the startup scans.

If your using a new configuration file you can add the default scheduled tasks by clicking the 'default' button. Add both the 'automatic startup file checks'.

Now you can edit the tasks by selecting the task and choose for edit. If you do that you get a little wizard, the very last step (after the finish button) you will be able to set the priority of the scan.

    Hope this helps.

Another way to make an easy configuration file is to do a single workstation install, go in and completely set it up the way you want. Then from the Main Screen, click "Setup" and "import and export settings".

This will give you a .XML file that you can then use to push to all the clients.

Sometimes that is faster and easier than trying to do it all through the Config Editor.
