This time i have installed ...

1. F-Secure IS 2010 (Paid)
2. Immunet Protect (Paid, 7 Days)

 

How is F-Secure? Was bit heavy when I tried some months back

 

Yeah it was really very heavy..About 10 metric tons..

Okay jokes apart, during my testing i haven't faced any kind of slowdown...But during deep scanning (Heuristic Scanning) it uses lot of system resources...

BTW i am testing it for fun only...Actually i want to test Immunet Pro. My Next review will be on Immunet Pro.

 

In a new laptop i´m considering to install windows 7 x64 with the following security set:
-Sandboxie (paid),
- Panda USB vaccine,
- Windows built-in firewall and partition imaging,
- Some on-demand scanners for occasional use (Virus total uploader, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and MBAM),
- Avira free without the resident-shield in order to integrate with Orbit downloader, to automatically check downloaded files through the browser.

Seems light and secure to me... Any thoughts?

In my eyes you don't need Panda USB Vaccine on Windows 7.

Why Avira Free for checking downloads, you can just use VirusTotal on risky downloads right?

Because, i may forget to check some file and because there´s a size limit to upload to Virus Total. So my idea is to have Avira without resident shield installed, in order to keep the sistem as light as possible...

Same here.The CAV is indeed good enough to say that it can stand among the "big brothers",at least for me.Added SAS Pro real time,though i'm not convinced about its efficiency.

Agree that, Windows 7 does not have auto-run feature, but Panda USB vaccine also vaccinate USB Drive aka Pen-drive.. What i mean to say that, this tool disables AutoRun file of removable drive so it cannot be read, modified or replaced by malicious code, which in-turn prevent the AutoRun file from becoming a source of infection...

 

You are right on there. But in my eyes that vector of attacking your pc (I mean through USB) is that small, that only Windows 7 not having a autorun feature will be good enough. I can't bother to install an application for a vector with a chance of 0.00000000001% to get infected.

But that is just my opinion. I personally want to have as less programs running as possible, only ESET NOD32 Antivirus next to Windows 7 (Hitman Pro on-demand). In my eyes all other things I might install are redundant. I absolutely don't see any advantage in installing another application (like Panda USB Vaccine, or Sandboxie, or a HIPS or a behavior blocker or something like Immunet: all absolutely will just be superfluous) next to the above mentioned.

Agree with you..but still i want to know why don't your protect your Autorun file from being modified or replaced by malicious code? BTW i am sure you heard about this malware... Please do check this out..

 

I hardly use USB sticks from other people. And if I use a USB stick which belongs to someone else the chance that that particual USB stick is infected is very small. If the virus gets, despite the very small chance of being executed (because of Windows 7 not having AutoRun), does execute; It still has to get passed my defense. And also if it does get passed my defense it has to be a virus which is totally in the background because otherwise I would notice I am infected (slow pc, redirects). Also if I do scan my pc with Hitman Pro once in the while it has to get passed that.
And even if I get infected it can't do that much harm.

Summary: the chance that I get infected by a virus by autorun (actually infections in general) is extremely small. I can't bother of installing additional programs which protect me against nothing.

 

Trying Avast (no IM or P2P Shields) with Prevx Safe Online. They are using 29MB starting out, might go down over time.

Removed Win XP and installed Win7 Ultimate on my comp with PrevX Safeonline and SandboxIE

i think i have a nice combo i think with a malware shield(PE Guard) and a malware cleaner(hitman pro) some thing bypassed the shield will be clean after scaning/reboot with hitman pro

 

At Present I am testing... F-Prot & Immunet Pro

It seems that F-Prot have better detection rate as compared to Immunet Pro ... But i still need to test both of them more. I really fall in love with the simplicity of F-Prot ..
