What do you expect for free?

I think that Sunbelt signature engine is very good, for a free second opinion protection and scanner. As it is onexecute only, it should work fine, along with other applications.

A better AV engine than Viper

Are there any detection tests available? :doubt:

Gamers might be interested in this, as a real-time AV can slow down the 'action' if not configured properly.

Scanning on-execution, could suit many. Eg. those running a HIPS type program or behaviour blocker such as Mamutu.

Run with hitman pro, Vipre engine could be a good pairing. Does it have scheduled scanning?

There are no "G Data engines" as they use Avast and BitDefender. Lavasoft's G Data product is Total Security, not Free Internet Security or Pro Internet Security, the latter two the subject of this thread and not the former.

April 2010 VB100 Reactive & Proactive (RAP) detection for Sunbelt: 85.76%. By comparison: Norton 70.56, MSES 78.47, Avast 83.44, Avira 85.10. Winner was Trustport at 92.79. ;)

Home users and small businesses can purchase both antivirus products in the form of one, three or five packs. The software now includes three scanning engines - AVG, Norman and Dr.Web. The Ewido Antispyware Scanning engine, licensed by AVG Technologies is no longer being developed, however its capabilities are now part of the AVG engine.

What I want to know is if it only scan's active processes does it lower the protection all? I know if it does not execute it does not infect so would that mean basic protection is just as good as other protection?

Is there any possibility to test this so-called on-execution-guard? :doubt: I didn't get an alert while downloading or executing eicar-test-file :doubt:

Yeah Eicar goes off for no tester on YouTube but when they start launching malware the guard starts going off much more. I guess the only way to test it would be launching a VM and testing. From YouTube Ad-Aware is rather good thanks to the Vipre + Lavasoft engine but most youtube tests are only 10 samples.

How heavy was it, from youtube videos I could see memory usage around 30k but when opening the GUI 130K

It's nearly impossible to use the computer while the update is running :ouch: It's time to uninstall it now ...

In my case update was not heavy. it was also fast during scan. But in removal it is over cautious, took long times and even removal took place at boot, although these were not memory resident threat.
