Many things: participating in forums/social networks, gaming, testing software, reading news/articles, researching, talking with buddies, doing works, listening musics, viewing videos/movies/pics, etc.

It's easier to say what I don't do with my computers: gaming and chatting.

Not really too enthusiastic about this one. Seems an irrelevant question.

A PC`s use ? Well, anything you like. I use mine for general browsing on just about any subject I wish to click. It is a massive encyclopedia of all human activity. It provides information and often solutions on almost every subject and enables electronic contact with sources never possible without it.

Pre PC ? Lots of books, telephone directories or operator and the Pony Express for mail.

Work ? So what ? That is the norm nowadays, I sat at one all day in my glory years. When the computer goes down, the company stops dead.
