CD/DVD Drive Tray Open/Close Software

Does anyone have any recommendations for a "reputable" CD/DVD Drive Tray Open/Close Freeware? I ran across one on Snapfiles but have not tried it. The CD/DVD Burner Tray on one of my PC's is starting to not respond, at times, to pressing the Eject button.

pressing on eject using your hand responds ok/normal though?

 

Most media players (and DVD players) include an on-screen eject button or whatever. Is that working reliably?

Also note that, while things may have changed over the years, most service reps used to agree that problems with the tray were the first sign that the drive itself was in trouble, and that quite often the tray was the first part of the drive to fail.

 

It is trivial to create code to do this. You can have a simpel program to run that achieves this. You can hook that program to a button or a context menu item. In fact, there is already a context menu item for the drive if you right click on it. Really, I think the first thing to ask is do you just want a sort of hotkey that opens it on demand? Or where and when do you need this functionality?

I can make one for you very easily, so could many others I am sure.

I see now the "Eject" in the context menu. How would add a "Close Tray" context menu option, if the drive button does not work?

 

I have been using this little thing from RJL Software for 3 or 4 years, works well, just run your security over it of course because it's a fair while since I downloaded it.

I decided to go with Wizmo.

I just press the Windows Key and R and type and run the command that I need: "wizmo open" or "wizmo close". It works!

 

I use HotkeyP http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hotkeyp.html.
Besides a single hotkey for open/close CD/DVD drive it has a lot of other commands, my favorite is "Remove drive" which safely removes usb(s), ie Ctrl+Shift+A and that's it.

 

seems like more work to me then just pressing eject. also note that a mechanical notebook drive which springs open will not of course work with this type of software

I just used this program - HotKeyP and found it quite easy to use once i abandoned my resistance [ I wont bother going into details, you get the general drift no doubt]...I activated the CD tray Open Close command - easy - by doing this -
Create a shortcut of the prog on the desktop [optional]
double click it
[now the nitty gritty]...open INSERT
To the right of Command is an arrow symbol - hit that,
a menu opens - go down to Multimedia - hit Eject / Close CD. That will be seen in Commnand now.
Up the top - Select your prefered keyboard keys - I did Win then 3 so the shortcut from now on to open the CD is Win3
Now, finally in Working Directory give the command a place to live - a folder to reside in.
Hit OK, close the prog, job done.
