When you install the free version is it possible to not install the AV engine or is it the end of installing Ad-Aware next to a AV program?

I am kinda disappointed that they got rid of the option to install just antispyware, I was looking forward to putting on one of my machines next to Panda cloud once this version was released :(

If vipre.dll belongs to the Vipre engine, the free version use Vipre.

Now though I am sad that it can no longer be ran to another AV I do like that they use Sunbelt in the free edition. If Ad-Aware continues to be stable they may work back up to one of the most popular and good security products.

That is if the software is stable enough. I used anniversary edition before and it sucked

No File-shield!! So, what is in the free version? Is that only only on-demand or only on-execution?

    I think it's an on-execution scanner o_O

I think so too, but the good thing is, that it scan all downloads.

    Runs nice and light here.

Does it scan all downloads from only IE or also FF, Opera and Chrome?

Well the Ad-Aware videos have started popping up on YouTube so I watched one, so y'all don't have to watch it I will just share with everyone what happened.

For real time protection Ad-Aware only scan's processes. When ever a malware process tries to load it blocks it. The real time protection does not remove the malware .exe files but an on-demand scan in the video showed Ad-Aware doing a nice job of removing all but one malware .exe that was downloaded.

The real time protection engine is the Sunbelt engine, from the review both engines were blocking malware. Ad-Aware also contains a boot time scanner, it is possibly from Sunbelt I know they have one but I do not know who created the one in Ad-Aware.

Rootkit prevention is not the best, Ad-Aware let a rootkit install but detected it a on-demand scan.Part of the rootkit was removed but a hitman pro scan showed part of the rootkit left. Also in the Hitman scan it detected 3 or 4 trojan files that were missed, but like always no AV is 100%

The youtube review is located here: -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O7Bb6tUKJI-

In my opinion Ad-Aware is working on going back to the top, this was the first release and if most members become a member of ThreatWorks I see Lavasoft deeply improving in detection.

Thanks Ibrad. Ad-Aware did ok. As you said, no AV is 100%, especially not with 0 day threats.

Btw, Ad-Aware runs nice with MSE and Prevx with Safe Online.

    is the Total Security engine/s G Data(Avast+BD) + Ad-Aware Antispyware/Malware?
and the free version's engine is Sunbelt + their own engine?

Regarding Total Security you are right.

I didn't test the free version.

Trying it with ZoneAlarm Pro( which does scan downloads for both firefox and IE). the ZA adds most of what is missing in the free version, so far no major issues. I gave up reading Download.com user comments a long time ago, most are written by kids, and not very experanced ones on computers from the reviews.

You can still run it, just disable "Ad-Watch Live" when you install it :) I think GData would be better than Viper AV ... :doubt:

That seems to be right, no alert when I download eicar.com :doubt:
