    Re: Toolbar

There is strong feeling regarding this, but if everybody did that, then alhuger & his team aren't going to get their bread & water. This is why I suggest in my previous post that they consider offering a paid version only at a cheap price. That way, everyone's a winner. (except those that don't like to pay anything, of course! ;))

    Avinash,

Thanks for the feedback. We are going with ASK right now because they are flexible in providing a co-branded toolbar and seem like a good partner so far. Google Chrome etc. are also good options and likely ones we will explore later on.

    Best,

Tony, that's an excellent idea and something I'm going to think more about. So, in your model you pay 1 dollar in get a toolbar free install?

    Re: Toolbar

I understand this...And i really have warm feeling for them, that's why i have also suggested them Yahoo or Google Toolbar options. I am not sure whether it is necessary for them to keep the default option of ASK Toolbar checked or not... but if its not necessary then they should keep it unchecked. They can also Advertise the Benefit of ASK toolbar while installation... a small quotation down the tick button is sufficient..This may help them...How? Quite simple..there are still millions of users who don't care about toolbar and even if they read it that it will gonna help them in searching then they'll surely install it, which in-turn help Immunet Team...

I would agree there, feedback has been consistent it needs to be opt in. I did notice the ClamWin is not yet no one seems to mind. I am not sure why that is.

AL - IMO you should have left the toolbar as your originally had it. If people want to rush through the install without paying attention it's their own fault.

And again, I feel it is a small price to pay for a free product.

Also, I believe Panda Cloud now includes a toolbar. I don't see anyone rioting about that.

Sorry i didn't get you here...If you are comparing ClamWin case with yours then i would like to inform you that Immunet got far more good response and publicity as compared to ClamWin...That's why you have faced such a negative feedback in response to ASK Toolbar ...

Reason is because they have opted Yahoo Toolbar not ASK toolbar. ASK toolbar is considered as a CRAPWARE ...Even many security product detect it as same, and asks users to remove it...But that's not the case with YAHOO or GOOGLE toolbar.

Not that I want to engage in a debate about the quality of ASK but but who detects ASK? It ships with Norton, Webroot and soon one other Tier 1 vendor. I think it's also Opt Out in those products although I could be wrong since I've done an install with them in a while.

Agree with you that it ships with Norton, Webroot and many more...I can't tell you the specific name of the vendors but to be very honest i have saw some security solutions that detected ASK Toolbar as either Junkware or Crapware. As far as quality is concerned, it basically depend upon the search result. Why everybody is using Google or Yahoo or Bing? Answer is very simple...because they are the best search engines..You'll able to get refined search results...But that's not the case with ASK or any other toolbar...Even privacy is also a major concern. I know that we can't trust on other search engines/vendors too...but still we are trusting them not because of privacy concern but for search results...

BTW i recalled the two vendors ..ESET and Outpost who detect ASK Toolbar as Malware/Adware agent...

I keep sending malware link's to the email address and I still keep getting delivery failure emails. I can't figure out what it wrong unless your email server is programmed to deny all emails without an attachment?

That rating is largely driven by Mywot users who frankly, are many of the same folks who post here about disliking the toolbar, they are the same folks who follow CoU etc. Take a look at the some of the comments, particularly those denoting the site as hosting malware (which it clearly does not) and denoting the toolbar itself as malware (which it also, clearly is not).

In frank terms Symantec alone will put this toolbar onto over 15,000,000 desktops this year if their publicly available sales data is to be believed, add that to Webroot and the scads of other distributors of the toolbar I just cannot see it being malicious.

The crowd who dislikes it, dislike it intensely, of this I am clear. IAC also has been way too aggressive in the past, I agree with that as well. It's what we have right now, we'll see what we can get sorted out as time moves on. I am not wholly without my own reservations but they are not as strong as some of the people here. At the end of the day, I will leave it to the user to decide which is what I should have done the first time.

No I was not, I was just sending the links that were pointing to the malware. I know a few labs that accept this way so I did not know it wold not work for some labs.

@Al What is a bounce email o_O Oh the email I get back when it says email failed, sure I will send you one.

Got the mail, testing now myself. As it stands we do not process URL's yet - just straight files. You can always send urls right to me and I will take care of it.

Well that might be why I was getting failure messages. I will stop sending URL's to that email
