    Handles and Virtual Memory consumption

    Hi.
    Bought a Pro license yesterday.
I wanted to ask about the PSANHost.exe handles consumption. (as seen with Task manager, for instance.
Using XP Pro SP3, by the way.
Upon reboot, the handles were at about 1400.
I launched a couple apps and they raised to about 2200 and stayed there upon these apps closing.
I did a complete PC scan earlier today (took several hours) and the handles raised to about 4500 and stayed there afterwards.
Virtual Memory consumption went at around 100M and stayed there.
It was about 40M upon reboot.
I did an optimized scan and it's now about 57M.

Could there be a problem with the program not releasing its handles and Virtual Memory?

Program's version is shown as 01.01.00.0000 by the way.

    Thanks in advance.
    François

So a toolbar was added. It will be interesting to see if people flip out like they did earlier in the week when another cloud av added one.

Personally I have nothing against toolbars in free versions.

During a scan or during normal operation? Also is this right after install or after some time?

I had that problem to on our family machine, after a few reboots and a system scan the CPU usage went back down to being light.

Re: Handles and Virtual Memory consumption

I´ve installed PCAV just today. I first noticed when i was running ccleaner, and then when running a scan.
Then, right after a reboot i´ve opened the task manager and and PSANHost.exe resource usage was very high (about 50.000 K)
Right now, i´m running a full scan and:
CPU usage is "jumping" between 30 and 50
Mem usage between 35.000 and 53.000

The only other opened applications i have is Opera and the task manager.

Re: Handles and Virtual Memory consumption

Right after install PCAV runs a background scan (using idle time) of memory objects and sensitive areas. It uses this also to fill its cache. If in addition to that you're also running a ccleaner scan its normal to see PCAV use more than normal resources. Keep in mind PCAV is a real-time protection shield, so any files opened or read (such as those by ccleaner) will also be opened and checked by PCAV.

Try what Ibrad said, run a full scan and after that you should see it drop down in usage a lot.

My memory usage dropped a lot after doing a first time full scan, now it's running very light on my other box with Look N Stop firewall by its side...:thumb:

    Great :thumb: :thumb:

Yes a full scan can speed things up to 90% faster. The cloud-scanning component (Collective Intelligence) is not only blacklisting but also whitelisting, so running a full scan helps a lot ;)

In addition to what progress said, that other cloud av already had it from the first beta build, which was more than a month ago, and it is/will be completely removed from their installer.
And Yahoo toolbar is always better than Ask trash :p

I purchased 2 Pro licenses few days ago and I'm VERY pleased with the product.
However , the fact that after formating my PC , or after uninstall PCAV (Pro) and re-install it -- the license is not accepted is a major let down for me.

I just whish that PCAV team recon the painfull issue for (loyal) paying costumers

Yea I really dislike the way Panda handles the license's.

It should be like once you have enabled the license the first time it stays enable on the server side, and all you need to do when installing after a format or on a new PC is to put in the license, and the client should ping the license server to see that it is valid, no matter how many times you re-install the client.

And I belive this is how Eset handles it at the moment, I put in the license the server checks it's valid and there you go, very simple indeed:thumb:

We're working on a fix for the license issue. Right now we're concentrating on some minor product fixes and then we will fix the license issue.

In the meantime feel free to send me the locked-out license and we will unlock it manually.

Quick question. Among panda processes, only PSANHost.exe needs internet access right? Thanks.

It's best to allow both PSANHost.exe and PSUNMain.exe.

Anyone tried Panda Cloud along with Microsoft Security Essentials? Any compatiblity issues? As far as I understand, you can run this software along with other antiviruses? I usually try to avoid it, but if it's the same concept as Prevx so.

I believe it's been stated to the contrary, that one ought NOT run Panda Cloud AV with other antivirus apps.

The PSUNMain.exe is the user-level application and GUI while the PSANHost.exe is the service executable. Under Vista/W7 you might not see the service executable in the taskmanager.
