Latest 2 Updates with Windows 7 produce 80200053 Error

Well this was a bit of a surprise to me when it popped up as it is my only encounter with such an issue with updating. I was wondering if anyone has figured a way to resolve this issue yet. Apparently a few updates were released today and 2 of them (they might be Win 7 specific) were glitching out repeatedly with the 80200053 Error. The two updates were labelled:

-Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB982526)

-Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows 7 x64 (KB982670)

It is in fact specific for these two updates only, as there were a few others today that installed fine but every time it would bug out on the two. I tried googling this, searching the FAQ's and all that, but it seems a lot of the info out there is based on old problems, sparse in general, or haven't worked.

Any thoughts?

 

I just updated with those a few minutes ago here on Win 7 x64 and had no problems or issues whatsoever. Smooth all the way, no errors. There must be some conflict (famous last words) with them and something else in your system. I have a relatively fresh Win 7 x64 install without too much loaded btw...

 

No issue here either with those updates on Win7 64bit

I updated 2 machines a desktop and a laptop. BOTH errored on the v4 framework, both windows 7x64, the other patch worked fine. Any ideas?

 

Yeah, it's definitely strange how some people are getting it and some aren't. Is it possible this is Windows 7 x64 specific? I'm curious as to whether having multiple variations of those "Visual c++ studio 2005/2008 x86/x64" packs installed have any effect on this at all considering how 3rd party programs sometimes force you to install that even if you already have it (or are they completely different from the .NET framework packages?).

Tried a few minor things on my end and still get the update issues. It could just be a problem with Microsoft's release, but I'll also give a shot to the manual updater sometime (I've heard some cases where even that produces the exact same bug listing though).

 

No Problem with x64 of Win 7 with the updates but I had to do as Ron did on my x86 of Win 7. And Win 7, Vista and XP Pro x86 no problems with the updates on the VM's!

Just an update on my troubleshooting:

I'm a bit lost with the manual download for the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 update. I managed to find the correct installer page for it, but there is no simple download button as there usually is, and all I'm directed to are two oddly named files. This is what it says:

I'm unsure as to which to download and install (both?). Really not sure why Microsoft hasn't made this an easy process considering how popular this issue is becoming. I'd much appreciate any help on this.

Like stated before, 3.5 works fine on all my machines, but I cannot get v4 to install on _any_ machines. For me it's the only update left, so I'm not exactly sure what trick you're describing Ron.

 

That's what I did originally, I selected all 5 updates. All 5 downloaded but when it came to installing, it only did 4, and the other failed. :/

Well, after a lot of searching, I found this thread, he hints that it's only an issue for people outside the US!?!?

Crazy, but it links to the standalone x64 installer here, which worked for me, and Windows Updates once again shows I'm up-to-date.

 

I had this problem too and it was more than frustrating for several hours. It occurs with both x86 & x64, nevertheless, after many hours of devoted search I found a simple two minute cure...

I was told to download the TDSSKiller - TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool by Kaspersky Lab (run as administrator). Fixed it no problem. I also used autoruns (Autostart program viewer - you are looking for items like this; File not found: ...) and limited some start-logon-autorun items and that helped as well.

The Windows FixIt is not all it is trumped up to be - did not do anything for me...

 

Unless it's a super cool rootkit that manages to work on x64, I doubt that was my issue, or yours either. I hate to think wtf the Kasperky tool is patching to have fixed your problem on x64.

 

Well just an update on the issue for anyone who's still been having this problem. Try updating now, I did it a while ago and it installed flawlessly! Maybe it was fixed recently or something. Either way, I hope this helps, and thanks for the all the responses on the thread--great input!

 

I dont know WHEN this KB956250 NETFramework 2.0 ServicePack2 for windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 for x-86 systems came about, but I wonder if -running a 64 bit Windows 7- such an update is really appropriate and perhaps not a W.Update mistake?
Do I have to install a NET Framework thing for x86?

I've already had twice to go back in time with a backup image in the last month on account of W.Updates not installing at all after May 9th.
I mistakenly suspected CIS 4 and its Sandbox novelty to be the culprits,but it was not so, even uninstalling CIS didnt bring joy to MS updates.
The only new thing I did since May was installing Silverlight for viewing a tv site, could this be the reason?
Please believe you me my pc is healthy and guarded well by both CIS,Prevx and Returnil.
